Well if its 'Chicken' then i would guess female becuase Hens are males. Chickens lay eggs. I remember that from that movie 'Chicken Run' ;)

Well chickens lay eggs which I thought the rooster when to the chicken coop to mate with the chickens so if chickens are supposed to be female then there are no male chickens to speak of in the world. So I would say she. Now if their are some gay chickens then you could go with she/he but the she comes first.
