We are still imprisoned by it.
The revolution of 1898 did not work out well as planned by Dr Jose Rizal, carried by Andres Bonifacion and stolen by General Emilo Aguinaldo.
From Diosdado Macapagal to Ferdinand Marcos to Gloria Macapagal Arroyo--corruption is their eleder sister who call the shots.
Elpidio Quirino, Ramon Magsaysay and Manuel L.Quezon and their breed got lost in the political melee. |

I still thought we're free...just depends in how you will use that freedom to fight injustice, poverty and corruption..individually. |

Before Magellan arrived, the Filipino tribes fought, cheated and impoverished each other too. I agree with the person who said "before Eve ate the apple." Poverty, injustice and corruption are all the result of Original Sin. There have been periods in history when these existed in lesser and greater degrees, but never entirely absent. Poverty, injustice and corruption lessen as people adhere to Natural Law and the 10 Commandments and put God and the common good before their own selfish interests. |

Never. In fact, this is true all over the world, for all nations.
Going back to the Philippines, people were poor even before we were officially discovered by Magellan. Filipinos cried for justice when we were under Spain. When the USA ruled, Filipinos were still poor. With the string of presidents we have had, corruption has been a staple.
The best times (just talking degrees) was when the Philippines was the second wealthiest country in Asia, after Japan. Thailand even sent their scholars to the Philippines to learn how we have bountiful rice harvests. We were not slaves to the USA dollar, and exchange was not our concern because then we did not have OFW families remitting.
And then Marcos came and pillaged the country, both of resources and moral values. |

Before Marcos ruined it.
An American think tank before the Marcos era predicted we will become the next Japan in Asia.
He is right I think, but then fate is not on our side. |

When these so called "poor" or "para sa masa" people get elected, all they do is abuse their power and corrupt money from the government.
We can never be free. It's in our nature. |

Honestly, you must be dreaming! If you look back at our history of governance from Aguinaldo to the incumbents, none has ever tried to deliver such idea. The powers that has been and that be has its own morals, faults, and vices and will always be that way in the cycle of governance. But dont pout! We dont have the monopoly for this social maladies, its worldwide from minimum to max. |
