I used to live 20 minutes from the beach and my roommates and I would just bring:

blanket/mat
sandwich/salad/fruits/chips
sun block
shades
a book or magazine

i said this in ur other question. it depends, on, say, the temperature.

either way, a towel, if its rly hot a good umbrella, water+food, maybe a cooler with it, swimsuit (duh?) always sunscreen if you dont like the sand so much, a chair. other items such as fribees, sand toys, shovel

if ur not soo much as a swimmer, maybe a book or magazine?

if this is just a beach day, not snorkeling or anything

I live 5 minutes from the beach. So, we go a lot. This is what we always bring:

-Chairs
-Umbrella
-Cooler (with bottled water, maybe beer)
-Roll-ups (deli meat/cheese rolled up - perfect for the beach)
-Towels
-Plenty of sun screen
-Toys (frisbee, floaties etc...)
-Book/magazine

i pack my bikini, tanning oil, sunblock, towel, shampoo sachet, conditioner sachet, underwear, a change of shirt and a lot of platic bags for my wet clothes and towel.
