One that really fits all the categories listed above is Bali, Indonesia. Bali is filled with ancient history and the everyday lives of people there are dependent on the culture. The Balinese thrive on culture and if you visit, you'll find that the people still wear traditional clothing.
Food, well you've got traditional Balinese buffets and food. You can always opt for a Balinese meal or if you fancy other cuisines, you won't have trouble finding it.
Shopping..it's cheap and you've got variety. Bali is big on handicrafts and you're able to purchase all sorts of traditional arts and crafts, mostly handmade and cheap. It's worth taking the time to travel out of the city to purchase these items if you are really interested. Most of the time these purchases are cheaper where they're made instead of a market.
The Balinese pride themselves on service, they are probably one of the friendliest people I have ever met. Having travelled to many Asian countries, the Balinese are ever so willing to help and to try.
Nature wise in Bali you've got white water rafting, hiking, scuba diving, elephant rides, a volcano & crater trip...anything. And they say, the paddy fields are beautiful.
As much as people say Bali is commercialised, yes in many ways it's true (if you head downtown to Kuta) but you still get that true Balinese experience in other parts of Bali.
Definitely Bali. |

I will try to list places that I feel suit each category best:
Culture: India, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, China
Food: China, South Korea, India, Japan
Shopping: Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong (China)
People: Japan, Philippines
Nature: Indonesia, China, Thailand, India
Overall Best: Hmm... It depends on which of these categories you put the greatest value on. On my list, the nations that are in the most categories are China and Japan. It's very difficult to judge, though. Even nations that I did not list, such as Vietnam are quite intriguing! |

Thailand, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, parts of China would offer what you are seeking "on a budget" that's why I'm not suggesting Japan, Korea, HongKong, Singapore - pricey!! |

Shopping, Hong Kong, Thailand
Culture, Indonesia, Thailand, Phillipines

Overall. I think Hong Kong, because you can visit Macau on a short ferry ride and experience one of the (previous) oldest european colonies in the the world. The Portuegese were their from the 13th century till 1999. |

It is really hard to say which Asian country can satisfy all your wants. My suggestions are ....
Culture: China
Food: Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, China
Shopping: of course is Hong Kong & Japan
People: hard to say, I think Thailand ppl is v. nice. Hong Kong ppl & Sigaporean are gd as well; also I think you have to think about the language problem.
Nature: China
Overall best: Hong Kong, Japan & Thailand
If you don't have much $$ at this moment, I will highly recommend you to go to Thailand. Remember when you go there, ask for discount!!!
China is also gd, but it is not a shopping paradise! |

Culture: Indonesia (One country and more than thousand different cultures), India (colourful), Thailand (Still keep their royal culture)
Food: Singapore has so many choices of food, but Thai's food is really cheap & great!!
Shopping: Of course China has! Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, all offering bargain shopping experiences. Singapore also cosy for shopping.
People: Mostly Asian people are friendly, except some people in big & busy cities. Thai people are great, Indonesian also really friendly and warm.
Nature: Indonesia (wide range natural landscapes, from tropical rain forests, sunny beach, sand dessert, snow capped mountain, savannah, etc). Thailand, China, & India also has great landscape.
Overall best: Either Indonesia or Thailand, cheap and naturally beautiful, also the people are great. |
