The Philippines and Singapore. Both have great English.

Thailand is hopeless...ignore that previous answer.

Why do you want to go to a country that speaks English? Why don't you just stay at home?

Go see Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia....all great places - and they speak enough English for you to enjoy yourself and not get lost.

kevin
its obviously the philippines... many people understand english there and people there are also friendly and kind..

The Philippines. In most areas, they speak their native tongue but can speak straight english and can actually copy the accent. They speak english in schools too. And most of the american and british customer service providers(hotlines for services/product support) are actually located in the Philippines because u can't tell from their accent that they're not American or British.

If you speak American English, I'd suggest the Philippines. Most everyone can understand English and most can speak a certain extent. The street signs, advertisements are all in English and most of the broadsheet newspaper are in English.

If your British, I'd suggest Singapore. It's pretty much the same, but with British accents.

Wow, that question would spur anyone from South East Asia to vote their own country to be the best english speaking country. Singapore with its british influence, has its own accented english- singlish. That goes for other S.E asian countries too. I think if you're travelling in S.E asia and have problem getting about, just ask the locals, they'll help you with direction etc.

2 countries come out tops - Singapore and Phillipines, where majority of the population speaks reasonably well in English.

the philippines. since english is the medium of instruction there, most people speak or at least understand english.

Singapore would top the list as English is it's the primary spoken language. But most other countries within the region do speak english. It's all a matter of understanding different accents.

Being a Singaporean myself, more than 90% of the population understand and speaks english.

However, do you really need an english speaking country to enjoy a vacation? Sometimes, the best retreats are found in non-english territories. Take Malaysia and IndoChine regions for example, they have some of the best beaches in SE Asia.

Not that they don't speak english there mind you, but because the national language is not english and it' not easy reading non-english signboards.

I think the best answer is all of them. I've traveled through SE Asia and had no problem getting around with just English. Certainly, it will be the case that the further away you get from frequent tourist spots, the fewer people you will find that speak English, but you will always find someone that will, and most people are friendly and willing to help regardless of how well they understand you. I would choose your destination based on what you want to see since managing the language barrier should not be a problem.

malaysians speak english. of course, not so much in the more rural areas. but we have decent beaches to make up for the lack. and the people here tend to worship foreigners, so you'll be treated like royalty.

Most people in India are educated and speaks English. Indian speaks and write good English compare to other Asian countries. There are also many spots where you can feel like home without the local people influence.

Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and others have their own versions of English and thus include lot of words of other languages in English. Singapore's fantastic and enjoyable because you can hear only verb and subject without use of the grammer. As far as vacation spots are concerned, there is no match to what Malaysia has to offer in the whole region.

Can also try Maldives. Small and beautiful Island.

I think people in most big cities in SE Asian countries speak reasonable English: Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia, Jakarta and Bali- Indonesia, Bangkok -Thailand. In Singapore most people speak English
