Monkeys are supposed to be much more intelligent but they are also more independent than a dog.
A dog won't learn as fast but it will be easier to train because it will submit to you if you train it correctly. |

I would have to say a dog would be easier to train simply because I have trained three dogs but no monkeys.
Both animals have been trained and used in space travel. |

I haven't trained a monkey before but in my Behavioral Psych class, we managed to teach our puppies tricks in 2 months. We made our lovely pups - Diana & Charles - jump through hoops, among others.
Of course, real scientists and whatnots have always preferred monkeys, eh? Since they are our "cousins" they should possess some amazing gray matter between their ears. |

Well, monkeys are more intelligent, without question (well, I suppose it depends on the species, there are many), but dogs have been bred to be tame, household pets.
Monkeys weren't necessarily meant to be pets, they haven't been bred the same way dogs have, so they can be more temperamental or violent. Exotic pets can be really dangerous, as well, because they're harder to take care of and they are more likely to spread disease.
It's probably best to get a cute dog, perhaps a breed known for its intelligence (the Border Collie has been ranked #1); you'll be able to teach it a lot and it will serve as a faithful companion. |

Dogs are smarter than monkeys
Chimps on the other hand- btw, a chimp is not a type of monkey-is much smarter than a dog and is almost just like a human
Many people mistake chimps as monkeys that's why everyone thinks a monkey so smarter than a dog. Adig can be trained easier than a monkey but chimps can be trained in three days so I read |

Monkeys are definitely smarter and this intelligence may be detrimental to training them if they don't want to be. |

A dog is easy to train because it's domesticated. If it's a wild monkey, I don't think so. If it's a monkey born and/or raised in captivity, then yes, it can be trained. If people can train bears and tigers, monkeys pa kaya? |

Seems to me a dog would be easier to train, but you probably could do more with a monkey. However dogs can be surprisingly intelligent. |

They maybe have the same IQ level, I guess it just matters on their attitude on learning. Dogs are not so cranky compare to monkeys. Monkeys don't seem so man-friendly..their faces is not that charming, hehe.. If I would to choose between monkeys and dogs, I would go for dogs. |

I think monkey is fastest learn our instruction rather than dog due to the brain volume and structure of this animal is similar with human. If you wish to leave together with these two animals, I recommend you to teach the dog rather than monkeys. Monkey is more aggressive rather than dog which can your items mess up. But choose the smooth dog like Dalmatian, Rottweiler, Golden etc. |
