U gotta be kidding me.

Your thinking is Japanese in that you equate clean with pretty.
In English we have two different words though. In Japanese, it's kirei for both.
India certainly looks pretty.
Japan can look very ugly, yet clean at the same time. Sterile and ugly.
Most rivers in Japan have been concreted to control flooding. Now that's ugly.
If you like cleanliness more than prettiness, then Japan's your answer. Not that there isn't prettiness. |

Tokyo is suppose to be a very clean city so I'd assume the rest of Japan is as well.
India is not known for being especially clean or odor-conscious. |

Japan is WAY cleaner if you go to Tokyo
it's apart of Japanese traditional and mentality to be clean OF COURSE Japan is cleaner
however, India is a great place to visit
but keep in mind unlike Japan many of its people suffer in poverty
Japan has a very good economy currently so it's going to be cleaner
even their Mcdonalds is cleaner than the US
edit:
Japan DOES NOT have a lot of illnesses. Japanese people have the longest life span in the world, second to them is Iceland I believe but I know they are number one currently! |

Japan is the cleanest. the sanitation there is excellent. Trust me I been there a lot of times.
Tips- on the escalator either stand where everybody else is standing or walk. |

You should not compare Japan to India in cleanliness. Japan is cleaner definitely.
Tourists visiting India come to see the festivals, palaces, and culture of India. If you do want to visit India, the only clean place you will find is Munnar, a small hillstation near Kerela. |

I can't vouch for which is prettiest because beauty is in the eye of the beholder (as they say). I can say that since I've been to in Japan it is a beautiful country.
Both countries have rich cultures and colorful pasts as well as sites of significance.
If by cleanest you mean a place where you are least likely to get sick or have hygiene standards equal or better to the United States it would be Japan. |

Why am I not surprised that not one person has answered India !!
Well Japan is clinically clean, undoubtedly so, but India is culturally richer and being much larger and more diverse, has much more to offer. |

definitely Japan. India's most parts are going thru developing/ growing stage. GDP much lower than japan. Indians are demanding still on basic consumption and survival products. Attention to social cleanliness and hygiene. But India has also a lot of wealthier areas where living standards are higher than rest of the country. My impression of Bangalore is a much more cleaner city than New Dehli.
japan is a very clean nation as a whole. Things (tangible or non-tangibles) are handled very orderly and professionally. But all these were very different some 60 years ago rght after the 2nd world war.

You want clean and pretty?
Look no further than Japan.
Japan not only has amazing historical landmarks but also is one of the most cleanest places on Earth. Also as a foreigner you'll be accepted with open arms and about 99% of the population will be friendly to you. Most importantly Japan is extremely safe. I don't think I can say the same about India... |

I was wondering when I came up to this question, that the author has neither gone to India nor Japan, first of all let me continue like others the answer is very much Japan, realistic fact and another fact is that India is one of the most dirtiest and polluted Country in the world, which needs a lot of attention.
If your travel to India is based on your hygeine or sanitation needs, then you will find Japan the right kind of place, but if you are going for some adventures or history seeking trip, then India could be an option, but take it for granted, one can get shocked to see India if you travel from oiverseas to India.
Quite unfortunate though!!!!! |
