Being a Malaysian myself and having visited Thailand, I'd say there are pros and cons to both destinations.
Thailand is known for their significant records on AIDS, prostitution (including children sex workers), a number of not-so-hygenic places (including tourist spots) - might be the same in Malaysia as well and the price charges for "farang" (foreigners in Thai language) are so much higher than the normal price. But, unlike Malaysia, you can find many more really good and nice beaches in Thailand (Take the beaches in Phuket or along the Andaman Sea, for example. The sceneries are just crazy, I've not seen anything like it in Malaysia before). Most honeymooners go for the beaches in Thailand, obviously because of the beaches. Try Phuket, they've developed so much since the tsunami in 2004. The Thai people are also generally very hospitable, friendly and helpful. Thailand's tourism industry is certainly more advanced than Malaysia's, so it also means that they have a lot more of interesting things to offer. You can also get the truly authentic Thai cuisine (really tasty and delicious ones) only in Thailand. Thai cuisine is served in Malaysia too, but most of them aren't really genuinely Thai. The Tourism Authority of Thailand also takes good care of foreign tourists and place them in very high importance. I don't think you can find the same level of hospitability in Malaysia. Wanna do shopping? I think you can get a lot of good bargains, even cheaply, there in Thailand. There are lots of varieties to choose from. Tourists who visit Bangkok mainly go for the shopping experience. I know of tourists who visit Thailand for the cultural experience and because the locals are so friendly.
As for Malaysia, the tourism industry isn't as advanced as Thailand's. But, in terms of communication and language, you should have lesser problems. There are more Malaysians who can speak better English than most Thais. So, if you're stuck anywhere in the middle of the road, there will still be help for you. There are also a variety of things to do/see in Malaysia: visit the historical places (Melaka and Penang), try the local delicacies there, visit the early settlers of the Borneo island, visit the islands with beautiful sceneries (Langkawi, Redang, Pangkor islands), go do some shopping where you can also get good bargains, visit the highest mountain in South East Asia (Mt. Kinabalu), visit the highest building in South East Asia (Petronas Twin Towers), visit Genting Highlands (theme park) and Cameron Highlands (plants and trees) and visit the KL city (many more things to see and do there).. One significant thing that you can't find in Thailand - the Malaysians consists of many races and of many cultural backgrounds, living in harmony with one another. U can find a lot of the Malay, Chinese, Indian cultures, and many more tribal cultures in the Borneo islands in Malaysia. We're also known to be very friendly people.
I'd do both Thailand and Malaysia if given the choice. |

definitely Malaysia.
you can find Thai food in Malaysia but you hardly can find
Malaysian food over there.
Malaysia do have beautiful beaches equally to Thailand
and those who are involved in the tourism industry can speak
English well.
it's safer in Malaysia.
July is Citrawarna month in Malaysia (if one want to learn about Malaysian's culture and Malaysian's food, this is the time to visit) and next month, August...Malaysia will held it's Mega Sale for one whole month. Do visit Malaysia to experience these good reasons. |

Thailand of course !!!
In Thailand You are free to do what You want to do.
And it is a beautiful country ... esp. the south of Thailand.
O.K. there are rules – like: No drugs, no nude sunbathing,
but that's O.K. ... who needs drugs on a honeymoon?!?
Malaysia sucks ... they eat dogs ... but before they kill them
they treat them very badly, they break all the dog's bones –
while the dogs are still alive ... |

I would pick Malaysia, not only bcoz i live there, it's bcuz I prefer M'sia.
First and foremost, i would like to explain that Malaysia is a muslim country, so what??? We still have other religion, and all races are free to practice whatever religions they want. And btw, we are democratic country here. When we (our dear politicians) have had disagreement, we (or the politicians) discuss our way in. Not by having war, like certain countries did. That is why we people (from diff race, religion, and believe) can live under one roof!
Well, for honeymoon, I would highly recommend Langkawi Island. :) |

honestly i like both. a lot. malaysia is slightly more expensive than thailand. on the other hand malaysia is so much nicer in some ways. going from thailand into malaysia is somewhat like going from mexico into california (if california was clean, lol).
there are many things to recommend each. few places are as exotic as thailand. although it is quite filthy bangkok is one of my favorite cities in the world. i would suggest very little time in bangkok, it's hard to breathe. chiang mai is a nice place in the far north. the islands in the south are great, and really cheap.
penang, also known as georgetown would be a great place for a honeymoon. a nice blend of the old and new malaysia. beautiful wide beaches. many chinese live on penang, as well as many indians, which makes for some great food.
thailand is theraveda buddhist, as am i. malaysia is moslem, they're pretty strict.
edit>>reading the other posts, i find i most agree with the beautiful young woman above me here. she is so right. |

I've been to both places lots of time and my vote is for Thailand. There are some beautiful islands there where you can have a lovely romantic honeymoon.
Malaysia is a Muslem country and the people are quite unfriendly towards westerners. The Thai people are really freindly and know how to have a good time.
Thailand. No contest. |

THAILAND - the Thais know how to party - "sanuk". Malaysia's still learning how to have fun. |

I've spent time in both, and so should you! Take a flight into Chaing Mai (Thailand) and take the train all the way to Malaysia. Make stops, enjoy the scenery, watch as the culture changes right outside your window. They even have very affordable 1st class cars.
Suggested stops: Chaing Mai/Chaing Rai, Sukothai, Bangkok, Phuket. Northern Malaysia has some rad kayaking and beautiful islands. You can even end up in Singapore for a relaxing cooling off period before your flight home. |
