My grandpa, Professor Kam Hock Hoe (mum's dad):

The old Kyoto University (Kyoto Kokusai Jujutsu Daigakuin of Japan (1899-1945)) is no longer functional and is now a museum back in Kyoto (as it was closed by General Douglas MacArthur). I'm proud to say, grandpa was a graduate there and as a matter of fact, his name is still to be found there too, as he lived there for some time (he had personally trained with high ranking masters and had also received his professorship from Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, who personally graded him).
Probably one of the 'first' non-Japanese (though he is part Japanese, due to our complicated family history) to have received commendation by Emperor Hirohito for the promotion of Japan's ancient art and being a well respected master of the Japanese art of war.
After the World War 2, grandpa was approached by several senior (high ranking) officials representing several national organizations. He was offered a permanent residency to continue teaching Jujutsu and Judo in Japan, but he kindly declined the offer. His reason for doing that was because of his love for being a 'Malaysian'... a true spirit of a living samurai of his time, for being loyal to his homeland and the land he was born and gave him life. |

Those people who never give up when they are down, when odds are stacked against them, with the prospect of losing everything they've worked for and or has lost and yet these people have something in them, the drive, the courage to get up once again from being down, those people who believe in the unbelievable, these are the people i admire most. |

I admire my brother and sister.
Yes, I treat them like dirt, as any respectable elder sibling does, but I love them. We get in hair-brained shcemes all the time, we hang out together, and we just like to mess around in general. My brother and sister have sculpted me into who I am today. If I made a mistaked, they'd be the first ones to tell me, and try to help me fix it. Although sometimes I doubt their suggestions, the sincerity behind remarks is truly astonishing. I can't imagine life without them. |

i most admired my dad for always saying what he believed in and never backing down and for teaching me to be the same. he always stood up for the underdog even it made him unpopular. he was the vice principal at my high school when he died and all the students loved him. |
