I was a frequent visitor to the Philippines for many a year, and since early 2001, I have been a permanent resident in Cebu. I love it here, and it was always my plan to retire here. So when I had the chance, I took early retirement, and achieved my goal.
I visited Cagayan d' Oro in 1982, and travelled inland to the Del Monte plantation in Bogo.
Cebu is my favourite city in all the world, it never sleeps. To me the eternal city.
The people match the climate, warm and friendly, always smiling, always happy. Whatever their lot in life. The scenery is beautiful, how I love to see the coconut palms silhouted against the sky. That alone tells me that I am where I want to be. The fiestas, the dancing and the pageantry, the Filipinos certainly know how to enjoy themselves.
I have been to Bohol, Boracay, Baguio City, Manila, Quezon, Kalibo to name but a few places, but Cebu is the place in my heart.
Virtually all my experiences here have been positive, with only a couple of negative ones.
I drive here, but I love it on the jeepneys, the laughing and joking that goes on. I speak some Tagalog, but very little Cebuano. The Cebuanos prefer to speak English than Tagalog.
Everyone is repectful to the Filipino flag, and traffic stops as it is raised. The people are proud of their country.
The downside of course is Filipino Time, which runs behind normal time, but one gets used to it. Outings cannot be on impulse, they must be planned, and preparations made. Leaving little time at the other end, before returning.
All in all it's wonderful here, and I love it. My nephew, and his friend visited me during their world tour, and they too loved the time they spent here.
A beautiful country; with beautiful people. |

I lived there almost 7 years. I loved some aspects of life there but found the bureaucracy stifling. I guess that's why so many people simply choose to ignore the laws. |

The Philippines, just any other country, is a nice country. It has its own culture and idiosyncrasies. If you are looking for negatives about a certain place, then you will always conclude that this place is not nice.
However, if you concentrate on the positives and the nice things, then everything else will come out roses.
In other words, seek and you will find. Seek for the nice things and you will find nice things.Seek for the other things and you will find otherwise. |

I've lived in Iloilo City for the past 6 years. There are plenty of nice resorts, resturants etc here. I plan to spend the rest of my life here. |

Philippines is a nice country & have so much to offer but politics & people in government are not ok. Too much democracy sometimes has its downfall. |

I think its an excellent country! I'm half Filipino so I have been there a few times. My Filipino family live in Narvacan in Ilocos Sur and everyone is nice and friendly when I go there. Great country, great people. |

No enforcement of laws - so you can say it is a lawless society . Drivers , if they know the rules , do not obey them . It's a free for all on the roads . The people are generally friendly but impatient and can be rude at times especially when waiting in a line . |

If you're not used to seeing a lot of poverty, I think you wouldn't like it in the Philippines but because I'm filipina, I see the beauty in the Philippines. Yes, there are many poor people and there is a lot of polution but there are also a lot of beautiful places. The shopping in Makati and Manila in general is fantastic. Can't complain at all. I'd really like to go to Cebu, Palawan and Boracay one day. |

I was there on Biliran Island, Naval, Leyte for 10 months. I've also been to Cebu & Tacloban several times and Manila once. It's a beautiful country with beautiful friendly people. It is a poor country, so expect 3rd world type conditions. Of course there are good hotels available just about everywhere. They especially have great malls - even better than most in the US. They are huge - 5 stories high sometimes. There is great natural beauty like waterfalls, hotsprings, streams, mountains, lakes, seas, beaches, scuba & snorkling, historic buildings and churches, etc.

I am British and have a Filipina wife, i have been in the Philippines several times and i loved the country, the people and the culture. My favorite was spending christmas and new year there in 2005 i think it was. Manila was a bit scary to start with because of the sheer amount of people there but i soon learned that they are the most friendly people you would ever want to meet. I loved the country so much that i have just had a house built at Santa Rosa, Laguna for our retirement. |

I have been 5 times now last time was in November when I married my fiance of 3 years. I only visit Cebu now because my wife lives in Lapu Lapu, but I have been to C.D.O and Manila. Like most people who visit Phi I had mixed thoughts first time around, the usual shock to see real poverty first hand and the worry about crime. But having spent enough time there I have really got to appreciate the sights the sounds the food and most of all the friendliest and most welcoming people in the world! I am planning on moving to Cebu permanently in around 18 months time. I know there is a bad side to Phi namely the corruption but believe me Englands just as bad but no one seems to care. I cant wait to raise my family there I wouldn't dream of having a family here, Cebuano's still have good family values unlike most English. I hope one day to get my Phi passport and be a proud citizen of your wonderful country! |

I was at Clark as a child in '75 during the airlift from Saigon. I returned in '83 and spent the summer diving on Corregidor and living wild with my father and some friends.
I came back in '05 and '07. Its a fantastic country - but the burocracy is insane, and thats why most people ignore it! |

I think that the Philippines is the "Capital of Pearl of the Orient" because a lots of beautiful and rich of our an aquatic resources like the coral reefs,a lots of the fishes and even beautiful beaches out there and I think some Politicians didn't to face it about the problems here like Poverty and even Graft and Corruption and that's why the Philippines is a lots of utangs in the World Bank for the budget it for our solving problems but that they not to helping with the poor families because of Corruption and even a Dirty Politics and some Filipino people that they always to ignored it when it comes to follow the rules and regulations like example the Traffic rules and a lot more. But we will to show it of being respect of our culture, religion and of course in our country |

have been to philippines 3-4 times but back with bad experiences. visited various places manila, san jose, lupao, davao, pingasinan, isabella.... etc. but not worth.
i do not like to say something bad about this city or country as every country have its own plus/minus points.
prostitution, crime, bribery, beauracracy, poverty etc.. is too much. Other things also is not good for smooth life. |
