If north and south korea combined to attack then the most japan could last is a few months because remember japan has a self-defense force. First, the two Koreas would launch an air strike against Japan, the old artifacts of the North Korean Air Force would provide cover for the South Korean Air Force which is a formidable force due to the fact that it has the F-15 K which is the best F-15 variant in the world and it has the KF-16 which is superior to Japan's F-2 because it has a lot less defects. However, both the Korea's air forces will eventually be decimated unless the South Korean Navy, ( the North Korean navy is virtually non existent as it only employs submarines that are only good for small commando strikes and even that is unreliable) Korea's pride and joy the KD-3 was the best warship only about 7 months ago and is at least a decade ahead of any Japanese Warship which means that the combined navy and air force will provide just enough cover for the ROKMC to make a landing even though Japan has numerical superiority in both the navy and the airforce. This is where Korea really shines. beach landings and land battles, the ROKMC is the 2nd largest marine corp next to the US marines and is trained REALLY WELL. (I mean they're trained to ski in the mountains and accurately fire a machine gun at the same time, that takes skill) Korea overall has better army training and with South Korea's 625,000 strong army and North Korea's 1,106,000 strong army would instantly crush Japan's 238,000 strong army. South Korea has a reserve force of 4.5 million men who can be called up to service in at least 4 days while Japan has a 58000 strong reverse force. North Korea's reserve force is 4.7 million strong. On top of overwhelming numerical superiority Korea has the K2 and K1a1 tanks which are incredibly advanced while Japan barley has any tanks. Korea also has the K9 howitzer system and the K2 assault rifle which combines the durability of an AK-47(Same gas system or something) and the accuracy of an M16. Whoo that was a lot of info! Now if it was only South Korea and Japan you might think that Japan might have a chance in winning since North Korea is still a threat to North Korea, right? Well I'm sorry but Japan still doesn't have a chance because South Korea and Japan have a mutual protection treaty and if North Korea attacks they will have to stop the hostilities to combat the mutual threat, North Korea. But even if Japan doesn't uphold their side of the deal then the overwhelming US military retaliatory strike would be enough to effectively destroy North Korea or at least keep at bay while South Korea attacks Japan. So in conclusion South Korea with its war benefiting features such as having the best shipbuilding company in the world that has experience in creating quality war ships. And mass producing hi quality tanks, IFVs, and rifles and actively researching on future future guns, camouflage,vehicles, ships, and to a limited extent airplanes and the fact that there are only 37,000 US military GIs stationed in Korea and do not make up the country's military muscle in contrast to Japan makes Korea a far superior nation to wage war than Japan.
Final Thoughts: I made the Japanese Army sound like a piece of crap and i do realize i was a little harsh but i had to emphasize the fact that Korea's army was far superior to Japan's army.
Also, the South Korean Navy and Air Force is pretty good and in fact can do so much more then just provide cover for Marines when they're making a landing and the Army when they're being transported to Japan.
Also, since most of the funding for Japan's military budget goes into paying troops in contrast to Korea which conscripts and pays about $10 a month to soldiers, Korea invests more in military R&D then Japan does.

Now you're probably thinking then I am extremely biased but I am not, I am just pointing out the fact that being an extremely big economical power does not necessarily equal to a good military.

Just because Japan has better technology, doesn't mean they are better in everything.
With South and North Korea combined, this means doubled the amount of soldiers. But, North and South won't come together as one since the incident that happened many years ago.
So, I'd go with Korea for your first question.
South Korea vs Japan....South Korea. They have been increasing in everything, technology, intelligence and much more.
Japan is good too.

hmm... well japan (technology...) but w/out technology korea would win but then korea has a large army b/c guys that turn 18 have to join the army (unless they have a reason not to..)

korea and japan are peaceful (as a nation)... (even tho some japan and korean citizens kinda.. hate each other..)

I still think it'll be equal if it's just South Korea. Both country doesn't have big / spend big money on military themselves. Rely mostly on US troops.

Funny thing is they have been to war. I had a foreign exchange student live with us for a year. Every Christmas she still comes to visit and she has told me about how the Dynasty came to order in Korea. That is why they are split up now. Japan invaded and only took over south Korea. So I think Korea could win due to the fact that we kinda "own" Japans army and South Korea is our allie. Allot of people fail to realize that when Pearl Harbor happened we went over there to Hiroshima, and Nagasaki and blew them apart......
(The atomic bomb) Since then we controll their military.

Well Japan declared to be a peaceful nation after the hot mess of WW2. Their armies now are mainly sent out to help aid civilians etc. in a country that is having a war.

With that if all of Korea decided to war with Japan, Korea might actually have a good chance. People talk about Kamikaze, but youth of Japan would rather not die slamming a plane into some object;( they are too busy creating holes in the ozone with hairspray and cigarettes).

But then again USA is allies with Japan.... so... I don't see it being theoretically possible for another nation to not aide in one or the other.
