...we Filipinos have such strong faith that for things we can do nothing much about (e.g., some of pressing economic problems), we just try our best and leave the rest to the Master Planner...so in the meantime, we laugh and sing and dance and smile away our troubles, our woes...oh yeah, we're a bunch of happy people! It is our best defense against the "insanity/injustice" of everyday drudgery. |

because for filipinos, happiness is not an emotion..its an attitude....filipinos have been nurtured to live life every minute of it...and we are loving it...we find joy in simple things..so long as we have our family and friends, other things are just secondary...our country is the most calamity prone country in the world, our economy is on limbo and we have the worst politicians....but we can still afford to smile and love them ..especially the politicians...they are actually our favorite entertainment source... cuz we can make a lot of jokes about them...hahaha.... dont you know that the two most fun poked person in the land are the two former presidents;Estrada and Marcos. And these were during the times when we were at the lowest and and the least free?its sometime undaunting, but basically, thats how we filipinos survive...just the 3 Fs...family,friends and freedom...and we are survivng with a smile..

i am filipino and i do consider myself to be very happy. In school, all of my friends say i am too happy and peppy in the mornigns, but i bring everyone up and make them all happy too...my mom can be happy when she wants to be. She is Filipino and she is only happy around other filipinos or her relatives...maybe for certain filipinos, you see the happiness in certain people at certain times. I do consider myself happy for most of the time...i do tend to get very excited for the dumbest things...dress down day at school makes me happy...packing for a trip makes me happy, my favorite food makes me happy...i dunno but i do guess filipinos tend to be happy most of the times,....i laugh a lot too..it gets to the point where i cry when i laugh and most people see the tears come out too...i guess its just the extreme happiness in me! lol XOXOX |

But also,
Deep in the hearts, there are many who would hide their sadness, sorrows and most are not willing to speak out. |

Because they are born happy. That's a genuine Filipino nature.
Filipinos are not that rich in materials things, mostly (in fact one of the poorest in Asia when you consider the per capita income) but that doesn't mean they are not enjoying life, they do. |

I went to Philippines many times on business. The roads from the airport to Manila are filled with pot holes, streets are congested, jeepley are everywhere. The whole thing gives me the impression that this country is not rich and people are poor.
However the people are friendly, and they all gave the impression they are happy. Why? I guess they are satisfied with what they have, the whether is always nice, except few hurricanes every year. The living is easy, the culture is colorful, and they love to sing too.
That is life, what else we should ask for. |

It is our nature. There is nothing to be gained by being depressed. To us, just being alive is already a blessing. Life is good! We have families and friends and we know how to enjoy life. We do our best to please our families but wouldn't have qualms to disobey them either. We don't have those pressures. If you notice, the most depressed people who eventually commit suicides come from wealthy countries. |

As they said, it's in our nature. We love being happy. We even had our own Laughter Organization in school with my friends because of the different sounds of our laughter.
There's no reason for us to be unhappy. We feel great in our lives. Yeah, our country is not the richest and it's somehow polluted, but I can't ask for anything more. |

First, it's in our nature to be happy. Second, there's a saying that goes, "laughter is the best medicine". There are times that we have problems and it seems that the only thing we can do is just laugh about it. It's our way of fighting depression in our lives. |

I'm a proud happy pinay!!!
When I lived there when I was a child, I was very happy.
filipinos are naturally happy and friendly. It's because the people aren;t very materialstic. So many children don't even have toys, but they're happy making games with a coffee can, chalk, rocks, slippers, and anything else they find.
Another reason why filipinos are a happy people because we don't want to get rich because we want the attention, cars, and money. They work and learn in hopes to help their family live a better life.
mmmm....i know there's more reasons but i just can't think of it =P
I hope you're having a great time there!!1 |

Their religeous beliefs. The fear of GOD. They celebrate many ways to keep happy. Closely knit family ties. The lack of high competition to become rich. Everything we don't have here in North America . |

Years of slavery and oppression has left them unspoiled, they aren't used to having everything their way and therefore appreciate anything that comes their way.
Thatis not to say there are not spoiled or greedy people here, there are many, just not nearly as many as in the States.
The other fellow was right about the cell phone, people here don't just talk even in a restaurant they yell rather than talk quietly.
They are easily excited and show their happiness that way or by singing, they are the singingest people I have ever met!
I am not complaining though, I am quite amused at these people.
Especially my wife and her family.
The first time they saw my chordless phone, they were amazed that it would work, my Father in law even commented that I had forgotten to hook the chord to it! |

Filipinos are happy people because they are dependent to God. That trait makes them positive thinkers. |

I think it is because of our religious character. We, Filipinos, look to the brighter side of life even though there are many obstacles in the path to God. We believe that God will always guide in the way.
Here, our motto is "Laughter is the best medicine!" |
