it is very sad to agree with it. even those who arent (very) rich are also materialistic. malaysian takes materials as symbols of status, like cars, handphones, gadgets, clothes, watches. the ones from lower middle class also act like they are rich, and it is very troubling that we have to spend that much money to give good impression to other people in a way that we have to pretend to be happy having money and stuff

winterlotus
Because the rich want to get richer.......no satisfaction leading to greed.

only the middle class are materialistic. Why? because they are trying to act rich and get what they want.

The rich can afford anything they want so getting anything isnt a challenge for them anymore, they rather be lazy to get it because they already have "i can get it whenever i want" mentality in their brain

are we? hmmmmmm

still see alot of Proton cars around.

A great number of the Malaysian population, especially the Malays, are trying to be 'middle class'. They have recently discovered this word and gave it a new meaning.
Without any problem they throw their culture in the dustbin and try to become what they think is 'European'. Off course Europeans would think they are crazy. At the same time they distinguise themselves from the other Malaysians by wearing a new uniform which is not traditional, but they claim it is nevertheless.
It's all about: 'being better than the others'.

Texas Cowboy
If they didn't care about money then they probably would not be rich. I think that most cultures are materialistic..not just Malaysians. Why? Because having money makes it all easier and more fun.

Merdeka69
meterialistik boleh! rasuah boleh! Merdeka!!!!!!!

ENIGMA VS MYTH
NOT ONLY THE RICH ONES. ALL THE CITIZENS IN MALAYSIA ARE MATERIALISTIC. THAT'S WHY MALAYSIA LOST 5-I TO CHINA.

Say what?
many rich people wearing slippers and pagoda tshirt sitting in kopitiam.

its not what u wear that carries u, its u that carries what u wear.

Weakness....thats what money does to ya.

first of all, not all Malaysian are materialistic, only a large group of people especially the people who think themselves as a "cool and rich". the rich people are materialistic because they only hang out with the rich and have no time for other class of people. but you can not take it for granted because not all rich people are materialistic.
so the conclusion is that not all Malaysian are what you think the are.
