Why are Philippino men so scared and intimidate by a white guy.?

Maybe they are worried that if they befriend a behemoth like yourself, you may expect them to invite you over for dinner. I would have to say that a week's budget would go out the window in one sitting.
I bet you didn't ride in their taxis or jeepneys.

Well, you may say it's your physical appearance since your height is not average for Filipinos. And since you are white, it is not very typical to have that color especially in most remote areas in this country. Most Filipinos are brown-skinned and are just about 5'8-6' in height.
I don't think the tattoos have something to do with it because many Filipinos are also covered in tattoos.
Filipinos hold no grudge against the white men. I guess it just takes time before they establish friendship with you. Just keep smiling ;)
Filipinos are known for hospitality, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take that long to befriend Filipinos.

edit: Then I guess it would be a good start if you also try to learn the Filipino language. You can begin conversations with them just by greeting them the Filipino way instead of just smiling and waving. A simple "kumusta?" (how are you?) would be fine. I'm sure your wife can help you learn some words, expressions or greetings which are native to the particular place you stay at. Good luck

I am about the same size as you they don't look scared of me, most of them are just surprise to see a big black guy who look like an american football player. I am 39 years old and I am told I look younger.

maybe the place you've gone lack exposure to white foreigners, that's why... the last time I went there, there are lots of white foreigners in Manila...

It's not that they are intimidated... Probably you went to a place that a foreigner seldom go.. hehehe.. But definetly were not.. Got lots of white friends.. There're ok the first time we met in class.. I'm 5'7 most of my white friends are 5'8 - 6'3 too.. So maybe they're just not used to seeing someone like you. We are nice people..

I don't know about other Filipinos, but there are indeed a big number of Filipino men if not men of every race who will get intimidated by a person of your size, especially strangers & even if they are friendly looking.

And I know of certain people who will look scared because they do want to engage foreigners in an English conversation. And for many that is really scary.

And anything that is strange, new & different for any culture is something to be wary about.

I probably will not be scared of somebody like you just because I know in the inside we are all the same. But if I was inside a prison house anybody your size would scare me, regardless of color.

I would assume, considering that part of the world, it is because you hold a lot more sway in thier lives than they do. You’re white, so if something happened to you people would care, so would the authorities. The people there have nothing to gain by associating with you but trouble, so it’s best just to stay out of us rich white people's way. Its like that all over the world unfortunately...

A lot of Television, and a lot of Magazines, makes Filipinos think, the average white (or black) fellow, are Gods. aside from the local game show hosts (who they think are Godsent).

tall or not, as long as your white, many filipinos don't want to get close to people such as you because they may think you are a mormon religious missionary and they are fed up with talking to them . Their companions seeing them might even tease them that they would have nose and ears bleed hearing and talking in english.

In every place, everyone would treat that person who does not have the same features as them differently. That's just the way it is. If it was me i wouldn't take it personally. They have a probably slight stereotype nature about guys who have big builts that u guys are violent. All those action movies in the 80's in the phil., the bad guys are big and muscular. They probably get the idea from there. I feel good that Philippines is still a great country coming from your perspective. It's really nice because some pinoys, (slang for filipinos) forget their own heritage!

While he was withdrawing from the ATM, he forgot his PIN so it took some time for him to finish, he didn't know there was an American behind him. there are plenty of white people in the Philippines that they normally won't get scared of you for being white...you probably just look bad or weird or those perverted white guys that go there for cheap sex... they do not want to associate themselves with a pedo or bad people in general. My dad is white and he did not get treated that way..he is also as tall as you...he never felt like people were intimidated
