for the upperclass, its a leisure. for most people from the middle class (and some social climbers from the lower class) the planner is either a brag or an achievement-> which ever suits your belief. coz if not, there are alot of available planners on office supply stores. I would rather have my cup of coffee where i can feel relaxed than somewhere chaotic, though my friends still prefer there.
the addiction? its not really about the coffee. its more of addiction to being looked up to.
this probably applies just in Philippines. Starbucks coffee in US is very affordable (and probably cheap) |

It makes them feel classy spending so much on coffee.
Honestly I like the gas station coffees better. Taste and price. |

I think it is more of being seen in such a place. Haven't you noticed that those who drink coffee at Starbucks are only good for one cup and it takes them that long to drink it? Stretching the one cup to an hour. Mostly it is just whiling the time away there and pretending to be one of the classy people. I don't go to Starbucks for coffee. I have my own place to go to, much cheaper and tastes good, too. |

Colonial mentality.
Anything foreign will make an impressive appeal to the Filipinos. (I am an exception to that rule) (^_^) |

Their coffee taste is consistent. I have worked in many offices and made 1000's of pots of coffee and yet there are those who can ruin a pot of coffee even with pre-measured packages.
Their coffee beans are of a higher quality and are processed without chemicals unlike grocery store brands so you get better flavor.
Caffeine is addictive and if you get a coffee that is consistently good from one store to another you stick with it. For those with a coffee addiction we just need our fix man and theirs is really good! |

I don't know - their coffee's a bit acrid, but other people have their own tastes. I can get better value (good coffee with croissant at cheaper price) at the coffee shop next door. |

I have know idea. Besides being expensive the coffee is terrible. |

Starbucks is not about coffee , its a lifestyle and the prestige that goes with having that famous Starbucks coffee paper glass around , its a statement that says , "Am too busy to take my coffee at home , I have to have Starbucks Coffee to go " Not to mention an order of their Tall coffee cost 145 pesos that gives you the right to be on that lounge chair for a day and nobody will bother you . |

it gives a sense of belonging haha! talk about the caste system.
other than that, sitting over coffee has been an effective way of catching up with friends and colleagues.
im not addicted to coffee, but if there is a chance and a reason, i would rather sit over coffee and talk with people im meeting. it's a decent place... especially when raining haha!
".... sit and talk a while in a world of starbucks!" |

I actually have gone to gimiks in Starbucks with my friends and what I enjoyed more was the conversation, not the coffee. Knowing my friends from way before we got our medical licenses (classmates in medschool since the 1st day), we had to survive on all kinds of 3-in-1 coffees. It's not the brand that counts but the companionship and the conversation.
When I want to relax with a cup of coffee, I actually prefer Figaro's blend. Nothing better than a cup of Kapeng Barako to stimulate the senses. |

i love starbucks!
well, i definitely like the taste of the coffee (especially the frappes). i mean, they use only arabica coffee beans. in nescafe they use the cheaper beans, the robusta variety.
second, will have to be the ambiance. it's better to hangout there than somewhere else in a mall.there's music, stuff to read, and wi-fi.
p.s. the planners are not for sale. you have to complete the christmas traditions card by buying 24 beverages by the end of january. |

well for starters, Starbucks does make good coffee and caffeine is addicting. i don't know if it's the planner or the coffee because the Seattles Best Coffee have the same promo but it seems to me that it's not as a big hit as the Starbucks planner. SBC only requires you 20 stickers and you get 5 items. (mug, towel, pen, planner, box) and they are all cute items! but still they don't have as many customers as Starbucks. (well at least in the SBC that i go to). Their coffee is good too by the way.
i personally love their coffee especially their peppermint mocha frap but to some it could be because of the caffeine, charity work (Sparks), lifestyle or just the planner. i also have no idea what's so good about their planner.. hehe. =) |

in the Philippines, it's a status symbol more than anything else for some(if not most). It's like drinking pop in cans just like what we saw in one of those filipino concerts on TV. There was this audience holding a coke in can... all through the entire length of the concert. Everytime the cameraman focus her....still the same, just holding the can. I bet she hang on to it until it was too flat to drink it. (,^ ^,)... sole purpose? Just for props I guess, and yes, they probably feel classy.. |

I do not belong in the upper class. My family, in fact, comes from the middle class. I go to Starbucks during dates because its good to get a conversation going with less distractions plus no one will catch me dating since the people I know don't usually go there. Hahaha. There are few people coming in & out of the coffee shop and thus, its very very much quiet as compared to food establishments. If you're going out for a date, its advisable to stay there. You can stay there as long as you want, even if you only ordered a frappucino!
My professor told us that the planners make her go to Starbucks. Haha
I usually go to "the other coffee shop" when I have to finish a report and in my case now, a thesis. You can plug your laptop there and you can even stay there til 4 am! Of course, you should buy something just to make your stay comfortable and "at ease". Haha
Thus, people shouldn't generalize that middle class people who go to Starbucks are doing it just for some "social climbing" purposes. Some are, but not me. Haha. Besides, I don't go there on a daily basis. I don't think I can date different guys on a daily basis. Haha. I only date one guy for a month so you'll get to see me there once a month. Haha |
