Why are you standing there looking at the sky?â€ ask the two angels speaking to the apostles from whose midst Jesus â€œwas lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.â€ That is how it is recorded in the Acts of the Apostles; you heard the account in todayâ€™s fist reading. Apply that question to yourselves on this day when we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension: â€œWhy are you standing there,â€ so to speak, â€œlooking at the sky?â€

This is a biblical injunction against looking up, against trying to find Christ in the heavens instead of looking for him in your immediate surroundings, in your neighbors, in yourself, in your work and family. â€œWhy are you standing or sitting there looking at the sky?â€ Come down to earth, this angelic message advises you. Keep you feet planted on the ground. Donâ€™t be idly looking up. Nor should you be looking back with regret. The only direction for your vision in this post-Resurrection, post-Ascension world is straight ahead. Look straight ahead into an unknown future where the Risen Christ awaits you, into which the Risen Christ invites you, and through which the Christ of glory will accompany you.

Donâ€™t look up. Donâ€™t look back. Look straight ahead with the eye of faith.

The beauty of the night sky never seems to amaze me. The twinkling stars , the full moon, the impossible questions. How many stars are there? Do any of them support a solar system similar to ours? Will we ever be able to travel to them?
I am going back inside now as my head is beginning to spin.

Because it's busy and stressful down here. Looking at the sky even for a minute makes me feel that there's more to life than having a life full of struggles. It's an amazing feeling when you're looking at the broad endless sky.

because looking at it gives me peace and serenity. it distracts me from the world's hustle-bustle. when i look at the sky, i appreciate God's works more. i tend to be more relaxed and calm.

To be reflective. The sky seems to be a serene place at least when the sun is up. It is gloomy when the sky is dark. It changes the mood I am in. Sometimes just hoping for a miracle to happen.

It seems to calm me down, and slow the furious pace at which my mind tries to get me to panic.

Actually, it;s wuite nice to look at the sky, be it blues skies or starry night sky, it gives you a chance to think, to calm down and assess your life, or just gives you a point of space at which to stare while you veg out.

same reason I see the ocean, with no horizon in sight,,,to remind me just how insignifacnt I am,,, I am just a fleeting piece of sand, on the beach of life. if we do not see this, then we are arrogant, and waste life.
