We seem to look the same to you because you've never been to China. Of course we have similar features, but there are lighter skinned Chinese and darker skinned Chinese... some with squinted eyes, some without... some tall, some short.

Just like with Americans... blondes, burnettes, redheads...

hey come on, where are you from. your are not from china, that is the biggest problem. you are not from the china, and you rarely see the chiness people but those poeple who live in china they are familiar with their structure and they don't feel that the people looks a like exactly same. you hardly see chiness people and i think you hardly speak with those chiness people. when you will live in chiness colony then you will see the vast difference in their face, because by this time you will be familiar with the chiness people and their structure.

Chinese people look as different to each other as we Westerners know we look different from each other. BUT:
Science proves that you are "right" when you see all Chinese as similar. It is much more difficult for the human brain to note special features in the faces of people that looks different from the people we are normally surrounded by. You can find a lot about this on www, like this, an interview from nature.com:

I've actually seen this question posted twice before. Anyway, if you go to China, you'll quickly realize they look quite different from each other. You just might not see enough of them right n ow all together to make the comparisions, I suppose.

The people of China to western eyes all appear to be the same (which is why the Chinese know each other as "The Thousand Thousand Same-Look People of Wise Virtue"). This may in fact be true, but we cannot be sure. Because all Chinese people look exactly the same, when they encounter someone who is not Chinese they tend to laugh hysterically, point and stare. Since the government forced all Chinese to learn English they will also shout "HARRO", or "**** maoing" at foreigners. This phenomenon is known as the "HARRO factor" and can lead foreigners to suffer temporary insanity after some time in China.
