we're good at it. we're a natural when it comes to caring and deep concern for patients. and we can make good money too, esp. if we work overseas. |

Maybe they are caring. maybe it's cultural. Maybe they like the money. I know in the U.S., our nursing shortage is so severe that we import many Filipino nurses to work in our hospitals and nursing homes. I say "Bless them" for doing a hard job. :) |

Job security. Rarely is the job in the medical field, affected by the economy. People are being born, people get ill, and in accidents.
It's a job that is always in demand. It's reassuring to know that they will get paid for a job well done, and with excellent benefits.
I'm filipina, and nursing is not for me. Though my mother, and 2 of my 3 sisters were/are. (btw, if it matters, we are U.S. born.) |

It's not all about green money but it's a noble calling to serve the sick and the dying. Also, to help the rest of the family and give them a chance to live a better life. |

I am a Filipino and I do not like to work as a nurse. I have absolutely nothing against this noble profession, I just don't want to work as a nurse myself. |

Because it is a profession that allows them to get employment overseas and make more money and get out of the Philippines.
I dont know how many of them really want to be a nurse as opposed to want to live overseas and what they believe is a much better way of life. |

Health care professionals are the most in demand jobs all over the world. There is a huge need for doctors, nurses and health workers even if there is a global recession. In short, if you don't want to be a part of the unemployed group, be a nurse. The young Pinoys nowadays are just being practical, they dont want to be a bum like some people in the States & Europe harharhar. |

Mostly the money but they also deep down like helping people so it works well for them if they're fortunate to get good employment. Though you may think its a sick and gross job, someone needs to do it and if you were to ask me who I would prefer to be looking after me in hospital I would rather a Filipino nurse than a white nurse as they would certainly take their job more seriously and they give it all their effort. You may think otherwise but from my experience with filipino's thats how it is. No doubt about it. |

not alot here have gone into the medical field. Nursing is a 4-year college course and with alot of people here deciding to forego college and start work right after higschool, candidates are limited. that's why hospitals have decided to outsource.
I've worked as a volunteer in a hospital in the HR department and the hospital is always seeking nurses in the philippines. why? because they are competent, reliable workers with a caring and hospitable nature.
Why do filipinos like to work as nurses? i don't think that's the real question.. there are just as many business men, engineers, technicians in the philippines as there are nurses. it's just that here in the US, we see alot of filipino nurses because the hospitals here CHOOSE to hire the filipino nurses. it's not as if, that's the only profession the filipinos are getting into.
that's why i say to you, EDUCATE yourself. right now you only see what you can see. there's another side that you haven't seen. 1 part of what you know does not make a whole.
however, if you choose to remain ignorant, then, that's your prerogative. but i don't think ignorance is something that your american counterpart would take pride in. |
