The "Visual Kei" genre of music, by its very nature, puts as much or more emphasis on how people look as on the actual music. Their hair, clothes, make-up, everything is over the top. You can't expect an ordinary person who is unfamiliar with the music to look at such unusual styles and not think they're funny looking. And the artists themselves can be quite tongue-in-cheek - does Gackt still claim to be a 200 year old vampire? When the style is so flamboyant and its so unclear whether the musicians themselves actually take themselves seriously, fans who are too devoted, who think it is all 100% real and all so very Deep and Dark, can seem like they're being duped by the glitz of the show.

It's fun stuff to listen to, but don't go about projecting the attitude that you're so different and special and misunderstood because you can really feel Gackt's music. Relax. Take a step back, take a look at how campy and ridiculous it all is, and learn to laugh at it all a bit. You can still enjoy the music while acknowledging that yes, it is rather campy. When people laugh at you, laugh with them, but don't let that stop you from enjoying what you like.

gackt is good, i like him, an cafe is awesome, D'espairsRay is my personal favorite though. gackt has a great voice, but i think he did well in malice mizer the most, and i must admit that i kinda only like an cafe because of bou, but D'espairsRay rules all hahaha

because if people are making fun of you for listening to too much jpop then it's probably because you make it way too obvious that you love japan.. hardly anyone knows them anyways... japanese boys are ettchi anyways... wakaru? :3

I think you should listen to what you like and if your friends make fun of you that doesn't mean there is something wrong with you. that means there is something wrong with them cause what kind of friends would make fun of you. I say tell them to lick your shoe

You shouldn't worry about what people think, if they don't like your music, then that's there problem. It shouldn't be about what other people think, but what you think. Just tell them you have your taste in music and i have mine, and if you don't like, well that's to bad.

And by the way, you aren't different, you just like different music.

I know, it sucks when people do stupid things like that. Society has such defined lines of what is 'in' and 'not in' that if there is something that is just a bit different than it's considered odd or out of place.. But be proud, you have the ability to be an individual and choose to go by your own rules and not societies. good for you. and I'm sorry that people make fun of you because of it.

Maybe the people who make fun of you feel like they need to put someone else down to feel good about themselves, and since your tastes aren't exactly mainstream outside of Japan they think you're a good target. In reality, they need to grow up, get a clue, and realize that other peoples' tastes in music, fashion, TV shows, etc. have little to no influence on their own lives. I know it's not easy, but just ignore them and keep listening to the music you like. You'll wind up stronger and happier for it.
