Bruno Taroogho

Why do filipinos like to add the letter "h" to their nicknames like bhong, jhun, mhay, bhoy, vhal, apphle?

bheng, thony, ghighie, phiphoy, pholeng. i'd rather spell my nickname as brunes (for bruno) rather than bhrunes. who started this trend of nicknaming by the way

No they don't.

Who's that GRO?

as in bHaduy.

Haha!! Very funny observation! I'm a Filipino and I have to admit I'm guilty of this... It started when my classmates at the University called me a shorter name for my not-so-long-real-name.... i kinda liked it and spelled it "meh" it's not pronounced as a 'me' but kind of softer, thus the letter 'h' at the end.

The 'sky' or 'zky' suffix is a different story, to put it simply, it's meant as a term of endearment from friends. Those names with suffix like that at the end are usually given by friends not the bearer of the name himself.

Because many of their real names have similar spellings.

Jaimee seeks HARMONY!

The addition of "H" to most names (with exception to those that should really be spelled with an H like Charles, Chuck, Philippines, Henry, Hannah, HARMONY, and so on...=P) must have started way before I was born. Though, I noticed that it became a "craze" during the 80's and 90's, like everybody will be injecting an H to their nicknames to be "IN". I remember there were available name stickers and they followed the weird spellings. My uncle use to complain because there were no JUN sticker available, they only had JHUN. LOL!=P

Some people say though that its the influence of the Kapampangans and their excessive use of H sound. Its a bit annoying but its cool sometimes. Isnt it?

If I have extra H's in my name, my friends will all sound like Gloria when they call me Lovelhinessh.

I never see "Bhoy" in people's nicknames..its usually boy..no 'h'

Cutiekel
maybe they hate love the sound of H in their name. now lemme see Cuhtiehkelh, uy, sounds like German to me.

straw wartsâ„¢
that's the latest style of my freakin' generation and it gets annoying though.

ew, then my name would be: fhatimoir, dhomski, fatimah, EW!

Fwine Slu
I guess to have their name/nick name pronounced softly. [Pilippines vs Philippines] Ever noticed, they also like the letters "sky or zky" added in their names like bongzky for bong, donzky for don, etc.

Sanda P
there are legitimate nicknames with "h" like christie, charlie, or leah. maybe we pinoys want our nicknames more westernized or more cool when written down. anyway, bhrunes is a really nice nickname. very unique.

brrrrrrrmmmmm

They want their name to be at least unique from other names with similar spelling. If your sux as a person no matter how you spell your name your still sux. A person with a good character don't have to change the spelling of their name.

it makes them look cool or in. there are extremes like apphle and bhrunho that gives headache to the reader. personally, i prefer the tarditional nicknames wihotu the inserted "h"

obscene and retarded
because most filipinos are addicted to texting. i guess its kinda funny when we use x for s, i for y, (if ur a filipino, you'll know what i mean) and we often add h to tour names like 'clha' instead of 'cla' only. kinda gave an appeal

Lenna
Just a trend. It's part of the evolution on names.

J@ps
It is for the same reason why you placed an "h" in your surname.

Who started it? I'm not sure many Filipinos have been doing that even before I was born.

it's called "creativity"...
