A lady once told me......"If you can not cry; you can not love"
I have never been ashamed of my emotions..... If it hurts.....I cry.....my sister died last good friday......and I cried....
Am I a man?..... guess you have to determine that for yourself.... I think I am.... my wife says I am
By most standards I would appear to be.....over 6' 2".....240 lbs most of it muscle.....I am a two time combat veteran...... serving in the mud and the blood..... I am a master parachutist with over 123 parachute jumps..... I served 30 years in the military..... I am an Army Ranger and a Green Beret..... taught mountain climbing and survival...... had my skull crushed....mangled my left knee doing karate.....broke my back twice and still walking...... I'd like to think I am not a sissy.....but you judge...... |

Depends on what the guy is crying about.
But as a rule, its not so much a sign of weakness. Its more that we feel uncomfortable around someone who is crying, especially if the one crying is a man.
Because we feel the need to comfort them. But with women we don't know how to comfort them all the time; sometimes we say the wrong thing and make it worse. Then we feel worse.
With men its even harder. As a rule if you can put your arm around whichever woman is crying (mother, wife, daughter, friend, etc.) and just shut your mouth, you will eventually comfort the woman crying.
But with men, it "feels gay" to put your arm around a guy. Which means we can only comfort with words, but we can't go too emotional or it "feels gay" being that open emotionally with anyone, but especially another guy.
And I keep putting that down, I want to explain. There is nothing wrong with being gay. But there is still a stigma associated with it, and it scares guys to think anyone thinks of them as gay. We don't really want to take a chance that someone will think that and then we have to deal with all those problems that gay guys have to deal with. I know their life is difficult, especially early on before they've learned how to deal with people making fun of them or even going violent on them.
But that is a sidenote.
Basically, we feel uncomfortable around a crying guy in particular; so we come up with the excuse that we can to stop it before it happens. That one excuse: crying is a sign of weakness. Guys are wired not to want to appear weak in front of others; so if we associate crying with weakness, then its less likely we'll have to deal with it later. |

Not all men. It is seen a sign of weakness because we are brought up as someone built with strong stuff, so crying is never an option. |

When my Mom died 4 months ago, I really wanted to cry, but I never did. God wiped away my tears. |

I do not believe that most men think that crying is a sign of weakness. Instead they think that crying is a sign of being emotional & men have been conditioned to not show any emotion.
And quite the opposite, men crying in public is a sign of their inner courage as it is taboo & it can cause one to be humiliated.
But there are instances that men should not be seen crying in public. And one place, men should & never cry is inside a jail, as other inmates will think that he is effeminate, as well as in many other places & circumstances.
Plus I agree with Kojak's answer. |

boys are told to be strong and suppress emotions as kids. men have bigger muscles than women, so this gives men a feeling that they must be strong. wrong idea, the reason for all the crime is cause people suppress emotions. if you care, you wont kill. |

Maybe because they think it hurts their pride.
Some women also think that way.
(Don't you think swallowing your/my/his/her own pride takes a lot of courage? Suppose my answer about relating crying with pride is true, then why should crying be a sign of weakness?) |

well because most of them last cried when they were in grade school or earlier. so crying at age 20 25 30 or up would be really embarrassing. thats not really hard to understand. |

Because men believe that tears are signs of weaknesses and they have the wrong impression that only girls cry. They believe they are emotionally strong and should be for their women, stalwarts and men in shining armor. |

because some men believe that a person cries when it cannot handle/manage some things like a relationship thats why they have created the idea that crying is a sign of weakness, but i believe other men knows that crying is not a sign of weakness |

I noticed numerous responses from females. Their answers are just opinions, not fact! Just as your question is an opinion, not fact. |
