The reasons could be diverse, such as:
1. Follow tradition.(They want the marriage to be blessed, and since following traditions is considered good practice, they would hang up this sign in pursuit thereof, although probably they will simply lie there and rest, being so tired of following so many traditions earlier in the wedding.)
2. The man would like the world to know that he is a busy bee, potent and virile, thus he would hang that sign;
3. The girl would have the world know that she is desirable, and hang that sign, to say to the world her man desires her;
4. Both man and wife would not rather have the hotel staff know they are robbing them blind, and taking everything in the room. |

Hehe - guess Jack of blades doesn't know much about you. I guess that newlyweds put up a do not disturb sign because they don't want to be disturbed. Reminds me of my first marriage in 1961 where we stopped at Howard Johnsons, and I had fried pusit for dinner... well, I spent the night in the CR. |

I guess it has become a tradition for most newlyweds. And I guess It's one of the good parts they've been waiting for so disturbing them would kill the momentum of the romantic moment.
It's better than "Back off. Newlyweds inside". Don't you think? lol. |

they want to use all the amenities and services available. The sign is there, so they place it. Or better yet, it's a more appropriate sign than to put ********in progress,heheh. |

They do not want anyone bothering them on whatever they are doing.. Honeymooners usually are in the mood and in the zone so knocking and telling people to leave them alone takes them away from that and wastes valuable time.. |
