it's a norm ... it's better to push the button several times than kicked the lift-door several times and hope that the lift at 20th floor will fall down ... and you can go up early ... |

a bit off topic but it reminded me of a story when i was younger. me and my friend were going down in a lift to the ground floor and just before we reach the ground floor we pressed every single floor button all the way up to 15 or something, and then the elevator doors opened and a group of people were waiting to go on. me and my friend started to walk fast and as the elevator doors were shutting i heard on guy "p#ki aya..." lol he must of had a long ride to the top. |

They are impatient - and just want to keep making sure that they did press the button so that the system 'registers' and the lift will definitely arrive. |

It is just the bad habit of mankind.
Most of the lift was program with 1st come 1st serve basis (Unless you override it with the key) & it will go according to it sequence. i.e. G floor up to the highest floor or vice versa.
All the lift door was also equip with sensor, when there is something on the door line, life door will not close.
When one press the close button inside the lift & someone press the open button outside the lift, the list door will open. It's also a safety feature.
Pressing the close button inside the lift will ask the lift to close it's door immediately but pressing the button from somewhere else will not have any effect on it operating time. |

Because each time the lift stops at a no. it takes time to close so the people waiting at the lift impatiently will help to press the button for fear of the lift would not come down. |

I admit. I am one of those people who is guilty of this act too...lol...
Actually, I do believe that it would make the lift arrive faster somehow....here's why I think so:-
Assume you are at G floor waiting for the lift to go to 3rd floor. The lift is at 9th floor; whether people are aware or not....the button that calls for the lift controls the door of the lift. So, when you pressed the button a few times, it actually helps to shut the door of the lift faster when it stops at each level. Understand? Don't believe? Then why do you think, that when someone who sees an elevator is about to close its door, she/he pressed the main button outside the lift? To 'force' the door to open, right? Well of course this will not work if someone is already pressing the 'close' button IN the lift. So, in the same way, if I am at level G and I know that the lift will stop at each and every level, I pressed the main button to let the lift know there's an impatient user waiting at G floor. |
