Probably because not many people knows it well. There is not much you hear out of Africa except drought and famine and civil wars. So people will generally lump everything together as one country, Africa. Anyway, how many countries can you name on your own that is in Africa? |

Maybe they thought of they are more educated than majority of other races or citizens in other parts of the world. They think of Africa as a country, as many sources they read from (newspapers, magazines etc) tends to refer Africa as a whole and does not specify the country or countries. That's why, they thought of Africa is a country, not a continent. |
