Why do some Malay girls reveal their arms to the world by short sleeves while still wearing a hijab (tudung)?

Well, some girls have really messy hair or just had a bad haircut.
They just want to cover the hair so they look cute somehow.
Some girls just like the idea of scarf, it's a trend.
Some girls have to obey what mothers say..cover your hair, because your dandruff stinks and make you look like a homeless child,
or perhaps they have yeast infection on their neck after horrible 'love bite tragedy'.
Others, who covers their body modestly, do that for good reason.
To avoid naughty eyes, to follow the religion guidance, and to reveal their beauty only to the person their having relationship with (hubby).

Maybe an obligation which they begrudgingly obey and rebel at the same time. They are probably young girls still in their rebellious phase. I don't see the older and more mature Muslim women dress in that manner.

Just my opinion, no offense intended, if any.

The tudung wearing amongst Malays girls are largely caused by their peer pressure and community culture rather than a call of faith. These girls smeared the beauty of hijab and forget that wearing tudung carries with you the responsibility of being a true muslimah and not some fashion sense gone wrong.

I don't understand how this can be trendy, It looks very funny to me if you are wearing headress but exposing your arm.

I believe the reason is the lack of knowledge of Islam.

one can see some of the young Malay girls around town (Kuching) wearing tight jeans and skin tight tops, not leaving much to the imagination, but got tudung on their head...

im with kak shim and abang Bean. just now..i went out to town and i saw..a malay girl wearing tudung with skinny jeans and short sleeves hugging her boyfriend in public. thats very embarassing. that kind of girl..will never ever be my girlfriend.
so girls..if you are interested with me..cover your aurat properly.

And also, some people just follow what others are doing. Saw someboy else wearing tudung with short sleeve tee shirts, they follow too. Regardless whether it is correct or not.

this is not only it...i see many funny stuff everyday...i have seen tudung girls smoking and drinking, kissing and hugging boys in public places, they wear baju kurung with high slit or the baju keyaba so revealing ....aiyah so much to say la if we want...

If you look at the differences of dress around the world you will see custom rather than Islam creeping in. They still wear the traditional Malay form of dress but put onto it a hijab. If you look at the form of Pakistani women's head covering, you will see on the majority a flimsy see through scarf over the head from side to side and the hair is still seen. This if from Hinduism and Sikhism which have the same form of head covering.

The question is to see what the traditional dress code was and how it has altered due to Islam, if at all?
