Why do squatters have babies when they can't afford them? |
This is about the population crisis in the Philippines.
I don't understand why the squatters complain to Arroyo about the lack of efficiency in the government and the population problem. They are the ones that keep having babies when they obviously can't tend or care for them.
How do they expect to nurture them when they can barely afford themselves? It's annoying.
And as if our population's not big enough, Koreans are invading the Philippines. They're everywhere.
Seriously. Additional Details I didn't mean to restrict it to the Philippines, but seeing as our country is overly populated, I used it as an example. |

The President is responsible because she has already promised the Catholic Bishops she will veto any Reproduction Bill. The Congress is responsible because they had a majority that would have supported the Reproduction Bill and have now caved in to the Catholic Bishops. The Catholic Church is responsible because they do not want the people to have access to any type of sex education or artificial birth control.
It is easy to blame the poor. I wonder if a lot of those people that have made all the cute dippy, irresponsible and negative remarks about the poor would not be poor themselves if they had been born into poverty? Instead of being so d-a-m-n judgmental why don't you try to do something charitable and help the poor and speak out to your elected officials against the Catholic Bishops stand on the Reproduction Bill.
The majority of the people in the Philippines have a difficult time moving from one social class to another simply because social classes still exist in the Philippines (as they do else where), but are more predominant in the Philippines because it is a Third World Country. I have taught in the Universities in the Philippines and have watched how the students bond themselves with those in their same social class. It is rare that you see a student from a poor family on a scholorship being taken in by a middle class or upper class student group.
The price of a condom may seem nothing to some of us, but if you are supporting a family on 80 pesos or less a day are you going to choose to buy rice and bread or a condom? Birth Control pills - most of the poor do not even know what that is. The government must provide free sex education to adults in community centers and public school and provide free of charge artificial birth control if they want to get a handle on poverty. Before they can do anything constructive regarding the problem they have to tell the Catholic Bishops to dictate church policy and stop dictating government policy. Democracy in the Philippines, I do not think so, unless you agree with everything the Catholic Bishops say!
You would think when people read a quote in the local papers from a bishop representing all the bishops in the Philippines state, "A married couple where one is infected with H.I.V. cannot use a condom, but must abstain from sex..." they would tend to wake up and think it is not wise to follow these men blindly.
A group of religious men and women (bishops, priest, nuns and brothers) who do not engage in sex (at least not suppose to engage in sex), not living in poverty (some claim they live in poverty, but they always have food, medical, clothing and shelter), do not face the reality of supporting a family, never have to worry about loosing their jobs, and educated in theology are allowed to dictate government policy which effects the daily life of those that constantly face the possiblity of dealing with these problems. Am I the only one that sees something is wrong with this scenario. |

Because the Philippine gov doesn't invest any money in family planning training for these mostly superstitious and uneducated masses.
If they were offered the option of a gov paid operation or being cut off they might respond better.
Until you can have Family Planning you can plan on having families. |
|

Who's that GRO?
|
coz sex is free. but not with me! P100 per entry.
and as for those koreans, well business is now even better. |

Maybe they can't afford condoms...JK.
...
That was really ignorant of me. From what I know it's not the case of overpopulation but crowdedness because of the lack of housing. I think it doesn't matter if they don't know the peak of sexual enjoyment but just decent JOBS for all. Also aforementioned lack of education and knowledge of family planning.
...
I'm sorry if this is gonna be off your topic but...
Ya know...last year I was assigned with the question "What's with koreans here?" by a teacher. What I found was quite shocking. It maddened me.
I have seen many questions here complaining about gooks(pun unintended) all over the Philippines and I can't believe not a handful knows the TRUTH!
You see, everyone, the reason why koreans migrate here is to look for BETTER education. This might seem ironic but take time to read this please.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_South_Korea#Controversies
South Korea excels in education but the system there is utterly terrible. Students get caned like muslim criminals, school hours are at least 16 hours a day, less than 5 hours of sleep a day...yeah.
In fact, the second highest reason for suicide among south korean teenagers is school pressure.
Somewhere in the mid 2000's American schools were attemted to be implemented and this gave some hope for the students. The teachers, however, defiantly refused and so did many parents. They were implemented anyway but it proved very expensive. To get cheaper education, students must persuade their parents to take them to another school from other nations preferably English-proficient...and guess where the nearest is. |

surely you all would think they're nothing but a bunch of uneducated rats who wanna get laid without thinking the consequence of raising a child... but what most people don't realize is the way poor people think.
to them, the more kids... the more they can potentially profit in some way (6 kids begging/working > 2 kids begging/working). even if they did practice family planning, they still can't support themselves... what more their family even if they'll only have 2 kids at the most? it also doesn't help that the Catholic Church opposes the Reproductive Health Bill.
as for the Koreans, even if i hate them for being like rabbits, i admire their resourcefulness. the ones who come here can't afford to have all their kids go to college and learn English in their own country. that's a fact. but at least they're willing to leave and settle for that purpose alone. |

Once I heard a guy from the squatters behind our house says "my children are my treasure", maybe that's why they keep on making babies. But the truth is, being squatters means they lack means of having good times in malls, eating in restaurants, playing with video games and going online, etc. They have nothing to pass away the time except having s-e-x, aggravated by their ignorance of family planning.
Let the koreans have their day, it will end abruptly, once they become potentials for kidnappers |

you have raised a valid point. if the citizens will not do anything about being responsible parents, then it is time for the government to step in and issue some laws to control population explosion. |

some people who have lots of babies are not busy. they are not busy bcoz they are not working. but this is common in all poor countries not only the phils. |

having sex is the only thing they can afford, they don't have the money to buy condom,so the population explosion. |

I think most poor believe that the more family members they have the more opportunities they would have when it comes to accumulating money and wealth. Think about it, if you have lots of family members, then there would be more who would work hard to look for jobs in order to help their families.
In regards to the Koreans who come to the Philippines, I don't really mind their presence as long as they respect our culture and treat our people right. So I don't really think of them as a threat to our country. Actually, they even help a lot with our economy. |

I don't see how this question is restricted to the Philippines. People all over the world have babies when they can't afford them, it's a 'right' apparently. |

it's called a the circle effect... those who are below in the poverty line tend to commit more crimes, tend to have more kids, and tend to be unhealthier... |

Because that is what people are supposed to do- have sex and make babies. That is what all nature does. And it takes maturity and education to think about the future. |

I think it boils down to intelligence. Education is lacking in many areas of the world about birth control, when thats the case then people make babies. |
