Why do the Japanese hate Filipinos?

I'm a filipino in Japan.

If I remember my news correctly, the prime minister had apologized for the pain and suffering from WW2 just after it was over. They don't feel the need to apologize for the same thing again... for better or worse. But realize that nearly five years after Bush wrongfully invaded Iraq... he has yet to issue even a small apology for the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed or the 3000+ American troops killed because of his foolishness.

I don't see where you get your idea that Japanese hate Filipinos, if there is hate or dislike it's on a personal basis, not because the whole race hates ours.

They may be judgmental, but they generally don't initially harbor prejudice unless something offends them first. And, to be candid many filipinos, Americans, and others behave in a way that may offend Japanese. If you're filipino, you must know what I mean. And if you're American, you have to understand what I mean as well.

I for one care very much for the Japanese people. Many have helped me in my transition to life here in Japan, and I even owe my life to a japanese doctor who was able to detect a potentially fatal disease that the American doctors didn't detect. Does that sound characteristic of a race that hates ours?

many years ago i took a Japanese politics class. i dont know about Filipinos specifically but the short of it is that the Japanese (some, not everyone) are highly xenophobic.

(i don't mean to offend or judge - this is just a generalization).

they are very protective of their culture and have pride that it is supposedly pure and free from foreign corruption. Any immigration from other asian countries into their country is generally perceived as a threat towards that purity. however, the Japanese do welcome westerners especially Americans. even as Japanese women are treated with disrespect in the business world - American women are actually highly respected.

this double standard of attitudes to westerners and asians can be attributed to business and financial interests - as westerners are percieved to be wealthy, while other asians are percieved as poor.

this is unfortunate because Japan has a labor crisis, as fewer children are being born, and the elderly are living longer. Japan could benefit from foreign labor.

again - these are generalizations about Japan based on actual statistics and surveys - and most Japanese are not like this, but this attitude seems to be there with some people - I question these findings myself as they seem simplistic and out dated, and maybe these statistics are wrong. i really want to hear what others have to say about these sorts of findings.

What do you mean "to ask for forgiveness". It's nonsense. It's politically ended.
You have a choice not to have an relationship with Japanese and Japan. Keeping away from Japan would let you go of your concern. If not, it's your problem, not Japan. You are mixing Japan with the west.
Go your own way. Japan also go their own way.
You have a choice.

I wouldn't say all Japanese hate Filipinos but I do know from experience that they don't like Filipinos very much. Just because they married a Filipino doesn't mean they already like you. I know a Japanese man who wants to marry a Filipina but his family is pressuring him not to. They said they would accept her as his mistress but not his wife. Pretty low huh? In a country where your worth is judged by how many Louis Vuitton bags you possess, materialism is very much alive in Japan. Therefore, they'd love you based on how rich you are. Sorry, I may be brutally honest but I am not a politically correct or hypocrite kind of person. I say what I know.

Actually, many people are naive to this fact because the Japanese are very subtle. They are not the in-your-face kind of people unlike in other countries where people would tell it to your face if they don't like you at all. They are very careful of their outward projection of being nice and polite.

Still, deep inside, I'd like to believe that there are open-minded Japanese people who are capable of acceptance and knows what unconditional love is. Once they know that, they'll realize they won't need a Louis Vuitton to boost themselves up.

I don't hate Filipinos but don't like Filipino-prostitutes.
There are many around Tokyo and even in my small city.
I'm not saying that I don't like them because they are Filipinos but because they are prostitutes.I sometimes get called to stop by them.I don't hate them but just don't like because as you know prostitution is not a respectable work.

I can hardly see filipinos who are ordinarily working here,I know there they are,but in my case it's so.I guess most Japanese are like me.

It is said people tend to generalize things unconnciousely,this is not only Japanese but most people in the world are the same.Think about yourself,you wrote like all Japanese hate Filipinos but the fact is not.
Some Japanese associate Filipinos with prostitutes on the streets but the fact is of course not all of them are selling sex.

This ignorant impression is just based on poor prejudice and lack of international communications.I think we will get rid of it by experiences which our countries are going to make together.

The japanese are very subtle and i doubt all japanese hate filipinos... i dont think thats true at all

but what i know for sure is many japanese stores around japan do not allow Gaijin's (foreigners) Theres a lot of anti foreigners in japan

if you are personally talking about this from your experience, something/someone must have misled you. if you are talking about this from stupit political point of view or information, you should know it's not always right and it's not the opinion of majority or japanese.

In reality, i don't think Japan is cares about the filipinos, it's the same sort of thing china was doing, continuosly nagging them about past events, Japan apologized on many occasions, but the chinese are still nagging, so i don't think Japan cares about china or the other asian pacific countries unless it's to do with trade.

I've already been to many countries in Asia (Hong Kong , china , US , singapore , japan , thailand) and believe me Japan has the most discrimination I have ever experienced.(I'm chinese btw) I was in a Japan Airlines flight and it happens that my seatmate was Japanese. The japanese guy requested the flight attendant to have a change of seat , a seatmate who is not "gaijin". He said it in japanese but I can clearly understand it since I can speak japanese.

As for Filipinos , you might not know it but most foreigners I know view Filipinos as low end workers (factory , entertainers , musicians , seamen).

Japan doesnt necessarily hate the Filipinos , rather , they look down on them. Since the Philippines is not quite an industrialized country,

I don't think that is true really. The Japanese in general do not "hate" Filipinos. They do tend to look down their nose at them, but then they also do this with every other race on the whole planet, smug in their own racial superiority. Having said that however, many Japanese men bring Filipina women over to Japan to marry. They stay here have kids and seem to live pretty normal lives.

The chinese and Koreans on the other hand... There you might have a point. The Japanese seem to catagorically despise the Koreans in particular even as they lap up their TV shows, movies, culture, and pop music. That mostly has to do not only with WWII, but CENTURIES of bad blood even before that.

I am Filipina. I got curious about this question because I am planning to have a vacation in Japan next year.

After reading Kei5's answer, I am having second thoughts. Maybe the Japanese will hate me too when I am there because they would think I am a prostitute. Maybe if I am white, I wouldn't mind since maybe they would like white prostitutes better than Filipino prostitutes? I don't know.

After reading Joriental's answer, looks like I have to tell everyone I know that we should leave Japan alone. There are other countries. I'll just show them Joriental's answer.

Ah, how sad. No wonder a lot of people there are killing themselves.

No info about Japanese hate Filipinos. So if Filipinos have already forgiven the Japanese, there's no point to suspect the Jap in this issue.
