Yes as yozora said, braces are not common in Japan like it is in the US. (don't know how it is in Europe)

First of all it's expensive. And second of all not many people care all that much to have unnaturally straightened teeth.
Younger generation may choose to differ though.
I do admit many of the older people who smoke have yellow teeth but bad teeth as in "rotten teeth" is probably common in Japan as it is in the US or any other country at that.

And yes they do have aquafresh.
And yes they do use tooth(teeth)brush.
And no sushi is not filled with a lot of sugar.

You've used the wrong term! 'Bad teeth' = rotten teeth! Japanese people usually just have crooked teeth, which is NOT the same thing at all!

YOU might be surprised to learn that crooked teeth are not abnormal in any way - especially if you're American! Because if you live in a country where it's a cause for suicide to still have crooked teeth at 13 years of age, or natural-yellow teeth at 14 years, then seeing people who simply don't CARE about such purely-cosmetic (read; VAIN) surface impressions might be a bit of a shock to your unnaturally straight & white toothed, unnaturally blond, and unnaturally tanned SELF!

Dentists are plentiful around here, you can literally go to a different one each time and pick & choose the one you think is less vindictive...! But as someone above said, orthodontists aren't so common - parents don't consider braces to be necessary, so don't want to pay extortionate prices to orthodontists!

Most people here in Japan with braces are young-ish women, trying to become more 'Americanised' by having those abnormal 'perfect' American-style teeth..!

I am Japanese but never heard of it. They do have Aqua Fresh though. If you are talking about shape of teeth then they are bad. Braces in Japan is really expensive compared to US. Also, they don't like braces because they look bad & uncomfortable.

Not just Japanese girls but guys do too but they're still good looking. I saw a Japanese chick with braces, the first Japanese girl in Japan i seen with braces..ha! I think American people have bad teeth too. Doesn't everbody?unless they take good care of their teeth.

I don't think a "majority" of them do. And many Japanese people with bad teeth are not female.

I lived there for six years, and many of the Japanese-made toothpaste brands do not contain flouride.

You can get flouride toothpaste in Japan, though -- they sell Aquafresh and Colgate and others.

Dental care in Japan is less expensive than it is in the States -- but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Japanese girls cover their mouths when they laugh. This is a cultural phenomenon caused by the fact that in the past they either had bad teeth or blackened the teeth for cultural reasons.

Nowadays most Japanese people visit the dentist regularly I should think and don't balcken their teeth, but the mouth covering remains.

1. There are orthodontist. However, most Japanese family doesn't think orthodontics is "must".
2. Cheap "whitening" medical agent is NOT sold in the drugstore in Japan. The pharmacy law confines the price and sales. Only personal import from overseas are allowed.
3. Japanese-made toothpaste do not contain fluoride.

I used to live in Japan and you are right they have horrendous teeth. I asked one of my Japanese friends and its a mizture of culture and tradition. Its was traditional to cover their mouth or hide their teeth when they talked because showing white teeth was considered bad manners. Hence the blackening. Now however its though of as being very "cute" to have overlapping teeth. And dentists are extremley expensive.
