By tradition the barong is not tucked in. A Filipino tucking in his barong would look as silly as an American tucking in his coat or jacket.
Another reason is comfort. Not tucking in polo shirts and tees allows for better air circulation to cool down the body faster, which is important in a tropical country that can be severely hot. |

Specifically for barongs, it is really not meant for tucking in, fashion-wise. It is our national costume and needs to be worn that way.
I don't think it has something to do with the Spaniards ("As a sign of servitude, the Spanish forbade them to tuck in their shirttails"). That was a thing of the past. I believe it has nothing to do with present fashion. We are no longer a colony of Spain today.
Personally, I believe it is really based on the following:
- Comfort. Since the weather in the Philippines is tropical, most of the times warm, it is uncomfortable commuting (specially if you only take public transport) with shirts tucked in...
- Personal style. Tucking out the tops is mostly a general style of Filipinos specifically for younger genrations...
- Culture. Most of the Filipinos are not used in tucking in, we usually prefer casual styles (since it is perceived to be more formal if you tucked in your tops).
These are just personal views though. Hope I've cleared some points. Maraming salamat. |

most answerers already gave you the correct answer. but this is what nena has to say -
pinoys have style. and since we are not exactly tall, we try to add the illusion of height to our manner of dressing. tucked-in shirts break our frame into two hence we avoid it. |

u know they just want 2 be in with the new...Filipinos tend to adopt new fashion like this skinny jeans now...look, wen u go 2 malls you'll just see cool fashionable outfits..and that's what I think Filipinos are... |

I thought it was because it was more comfortable and looked better, more than the fact people won't allow it. How strange |

Not all the time ;that the male filipinos dont tuck-in their tops/shirts.It depends on what are they wearing. But ;if they wear barong tagalog(the filipino male traditional shirt) it should never be tuck-in. It's ankward to look at.They dont usually tuck-in their shirts especially if they are working hard(laborers)because it's uneasy for them to move. |

They don't tuck their shirts in because it hides the fact that most of them don't wear a belt?? LOL All kidding aside. My nephews do tuck their shirts in at times. Depends on the shirt cut, the same as here in the states. You look on Hawaii shirts and they are cut to show the bottoms. The fatter guys are afraid their overhang will show, But by tucking in the shirt, many times the pants stay up better. Barangs are made to wear out of the slacks as a "dress" shirt. |

They don't want to look " Baduy". I also noticed that indian and bangladesh men (straight males) hold hands while walking. I was told that it is an influence of the English |

What? I've noticed the exact opposite.
People tuck in their shirt in the Philippines too much.
My cousins say it's an 80s thing. |

When the Spaniards colonized the Filipinos, they had to make it abundantly clear who the boss was through the imposition of a dress code. Men were not allowed to tuck their shirttails in. That was the mark of his inferior status. |
