what i am about to say does not really have to do about history and culture. however, this is why i have trouble with being proud.

first of all, i agree, we have such rich history and culture. thats what make my parents very VERY proud of their heritage. i want to say i am proud to be a filipino, however, there are times when i see a lot of filipinos and filipino americans they do things that badly represent a filipino or filipino american and to me, its quite disappointing.

this is the way i saw them:
among the them, are that they are VERY self conscious, always trying to look good. by having ALL the newest trends, as well as show off their high end stuff, coach, LV, gucci, mercedes, bmw, lexus, wutever. they are obsessed with showing the highend names but to me it looks VERY smug. they have to wear the nice polo, pop the collar and wear some gucci fannypack everyday or something, i duno. makes them look very obssesed with their look. but back to the topic, there are a lot of fakes people out there. when u try going to those filipino clubs at those colleges, they try to socialize with icebreakers and try to socialize u with all these waste of time filipino events and everything, but all u see at these 'social events' are the clicks and snobs, just like high school! well, there are quite a lot of things.

this is how i experienced them:
but lemme just tell u my story. this was my experience with filipinos when i was in high school, i didnt hang out with filipinos. the 'filipino clicks' saw me as a nerd and i was no good for them. but thats high school, so whatever. but when i hit college and went to those filipino meetings, i thought i was gonna experience some culture filipino or filipino american, meet other filipino americans, and find out the background i come from, that i would come to the conclusion that i was not alone. but it felt like high school all over again, cliques, the snobs, and the jerks. my first day, they were all staring at me.

i dont really hang out with filipinos, i have a diverse group of friends, caucasian/latin/asian/black and a few filipinos, but i hope that in the future my view of filipinos or filipino americans will finally change. i dont wanna say i hate filipinos, but i can say that i have a 'disapproving' feeling about them. i have tried to embrace many times, but they usuallly come out with a negative result. i hope that one day my embracing to filipinos and culture will be worth it at the end. i wanna kno what will benefit me with this culture and what this culture can benefit from me.

I am PROUD TO BE A FILIPINA.....not only filipinos are not proud of thier culture....some other races are not proud of their races either....IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE PERSON....

we are proud to be filipinos.
it just happens that we have an uncanny ability to make fun of our own misery.
i would say we are the most colorful, exciting, fun loving and to an extent the weirdest people in the whole wide world.

You know i have traveled to many countries and all seem to be proud of their country but not many are as proud of their culture as in Phil. Sure they will complain about this and that but most are VERY proud of Phil. As a foreigner I learned that if a Philippino is complaining to just listen and nod my head and say nothing as it seems to be their right only and they will be very offended if it done buy a foreigner ! One told me you have to EARN the right to complain by living there rather than just visiting for a few monthes every year ! Perhaps he was right ?

its only the people who left the Philippines and lives in another country that think they are better than everyone else just because they make more money than the people in the Philippines. Im not saying all but i know a lot of people who denies they are Filipino and make fun of FOBs (fresh off the boats). i hate those kind of people. It doesnt make them better just because they been in the states longer.

this topic makes me mad. sorry

I'm proud to be a Pilipino.
Mabuhay!

I am proud of being a Filipino.

And my pride in being one does not rest with just utterances of words.

It is why it is quite important for me as a filipino to know our heritage, to know the part of our culture that we should be proud of and the deficiencies that we must strive to correct or improve on. It is only with complete knowledge of ourselves, of our culture, and our country, or, anywhere near it, can we counter any attack or insult on our being.

And so, I say Mabuhay to the Filipinos who take pride in being Filipinos!

I am proud to be Pinoy!

we are all proud to be pinoys because we do something that makes our country proud ...in our own little way.

DC Fanatic
I'm proud to be Pinoy... always have, always will.

Yung nga lang, the greater majority of our fellowmen live below the poverty line. Given the fact that a lot of things are going wrong in the way our country is run, and a lot are literally starving badly, it's quite hard nga naman how to continue being proud of who we are if we were in their shoes.

To all of us who are still proud of being Pinoys, sama natin sa ating pagiging proud our country men who may have lost hope in our race in the face our trying times.

In union there's strength... sa sibuyas may tigas!!!

Yeah I know, Most Filipinos have western 1stnames like Michael,Jenny,Michelle,Robert instead of naming their kids native Filipino names like Mutya,Alunsina,Makisig,Bayani and Dakila. No Filipino can speak straight Tagalog now.

It's sad that the colorful culture is being killed by westernization.

I'm really proud of being a Filipino. We moved here in California last year though. ;(

A lot of people were asking me what I was and where I came from. Well, I surely and proudly said I was Filipino. They were interested and some of my friends here are going to visit the Philippines at summer.

And yeah. About our Culture and History. I studied there until sixth grade and I almost know all of the Philippines' history. And also I roamed the whole Philippines and saw all of my other kababayan's culture.

That's why I'm not shy of being Filipino. :)

Just renounced my Filipino citizenship couple of months ago but no one can take away the FILIPINO PRIDE in me - in my mind, in my heart, in my soul!
To those who lost the Pinoy Pride, they just got a twisted sense of nationalism or none at all.
