Why in malaysia all things are expensive and the peope's salary here are so low??

Sorry to say, but government is not to be fully blamed for that. I know they might seem like a nice scape-goat now, but let's be realistic. The ones to be blamed for that are the merchants. They keep prices high to maximise their profits.

Salaries can never keep up when prices take a hike, that's everywhere the same, even in EU. Malaysia needs someone who will keep the tycoons and greedy merchants under control, that's your solution. Honestly, fuel is still cheap in Malaysia, but goods aren't. In Thailand most of goods are cheaper than here although the fuel is significantly more expensive. For any potential fuel increase traders will increase each item by at least some ten cents. Do you really think they would suffer so much loss? No.

You can see shop owners driving around in Harriers, which is just one of the several vehicles thay own, in a country where a Harrier costs as much as an average house. Cost of living in Malaysia is still lower than in the West because the standard of living is lower.

I don't think ALL things are expensive, just have to budget properly. I don't go for branded stuffs and buy groceries from hypermarkets instead.
It all depends on what stuffs you're buying - imported stuffs?
and where you bought it? if KLCC, KL Sentral & even Damansara the stuffs there are expensive.

All in all, if I'm not choosy and willing to walk a few blocks I can always get a good pack of economic rice for RM2-4 (min.3 dishes WITH meat in it). In PJ :) And this was when I had below RM2K salary.

products cost money to make and import, then profit has to be added, payment is often in USD it then has to be converted to the local currency which all makes things expensive
