i'm not afraid of death i just don't wan't to, because if you die there's no coming back...

Significant Other
People are in fear of the unknown and are comfortable in what they already know exist. They don't know if there is life after death. It is a mystery you can never solve and thus the fear of never being able to see people nor do things will frighten you. Judging by scientific and realistically speaking, there hasn't been proof of an after life, just like animals we die and rot. You can go by the religious views and think of life after death as a place in the heavens, but until then live your life and embrace the outcome in the end.

I'm not afraid of death the only thing is how.

There are perhaps many reasons. What I believe is that people fear the unknown, whether or not they admit it, the mind unconciously fears it. If we humans knew what life after death felt like, we would not fear it.

Also, in todays media, death is usually accompanied by the media. Anything that shows an end result as death, pain is usually shown before.

Harleigh
because it's an unknown, and the unknown is always a little scary. I mean I've never received a postcard from someone who's made THAT trip, have you? X)

I'm not.

Zealous Devil
Because can someone really explain death? Death is really mysterious. People often feel scared of mystery or the unknown. Therefore, people are afraid of death. Also, people fear the separation of their loved ones from them. Hence, we cry when a loved one die.

Not all are afraid of death, though. For me, death is just a phase. So I'm not really scared of it.

Juan C
not everybody...

they are afraid of death because they are not yet ready to die... meaning they don't have strong faith...

those who are not afraid of dying- they are ready/prepared, they have strong faith, etc....

. 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep--
To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
. . . .

But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?

Have you seen "Kahit Isang Saglit" played by Piolo and Juday? The storyteller in the film has the same fears as you.
EDIT: Fear for what will happen to their loved ones.

People are afraid of death because it may not be their time to go. That is to say, unless the person makes a conscious decision to end their own life, then any fear they have is probably due to the fact that they have not yet experienced everything they were meant to while living.

for me i personally have fear of death. my babies are too young.. who gonna take care of them, i know nobody can love them as much as i do. i will miss their smile, their hug, their cry, their love.

then i'm also afraid that there's nothing in there. i've just been thinking of this for weeks now that what if we are just like plants that live and die. i hope i'm wrong, yes i hope i'm wrong and the right one is that there is God who will welcome us to his world other than where we are right now.

saraphine
Death a lot of time equates to pain, and pain is scary. Some are afraid of a judgement day. Some just don't want to die. I personally am not afraid. Its just death...

I'm not.

I accept that death, inasmuch as pain and sickness, is part of life. It's a cycle... we are born, and then we die. Could you imagine if everybody who was ever born never died? We'd probably have to find another planet to occupy.

But perhaps, the reason why death is met with such apprehension spurs not from the idea of death itself, but from the fear of pain and of facing the unknown. Nobody knows what happens to any one entity after death, and no theory could possibly be accurate, lest the one who proposed it had been dead for a good two days and then suddenly came back to life.

And if not, many people fear death because of the fear of what would happen to their loved ones after they are gone. I speak about the mothers, fathers, and all others who still have obligations to fulfill. Dying is frightful because they are afraid of what would happen to their dependents once they are gone.

EDIT:
To Aref...
The inter-planetary migration, fear of the unknown or the fear for the dependents? ^_^ I haven't seen that movie. But now I'm intrigued. Will go and rent it sometime, thanks! ^_^

because no one knows the perception of real death.

yonip.orig
I am no longer afraid.Sometimes, when everything in my life goes wrong I even welcome it.I had a near death experience, and its the most peaceful and beautiful experience. To me its like coming home, peace and eternal love surrounds you. I may sound loony, but it happened to me.

jim
Don't worry. It only happens once. Once your dead, you don't feel any pain, you don't need to worry about being broke, or hungry, or even how you look. Your never hot or cold. You don't have any bills to pay.

You will however, meet all your friends in Hell!!!
