Why is it that nobody wants to hire me?

hello.

i'm a bored 19 year old 3rd year college student.

i was hoping to be accepted for a part time job
(like what i said, i'm bored so i thought of working),
but nobody wants me in (i guess).

here. you may check my rejection details:

1) mCdonald's

-- i asked the manager to make me the sundae maker (ice cream) because i don't want to clean the toilet and wipe the messy tables.

2) infonxx

-- it's a call center. idk why they did not let me in. you might say i have a head as big as an air balloon.. but urgh! i speak english better than those who were accepted!

-- i even wore a corporate attire like it's supposed to be.. but they accepted those who just wore some Tshirt and jeans.

3) some well-recognized bake shop

-- i recently gave my resume to the manager and she's still not calling me. aww.

4) some golf course (the most annoying)

-- i play golf at that golf city's particular range almost everyday, so i thought they might hire me because i'm a player.. but they did not!

-- during the first day of training, i did attend. but the next day, the manager sent me home. he said he would be dead if my parents learn that they let me work. urgh! but i told them that it's supposed to be a secret!

-- the manager was tapping my head while saying something like "ohh dear. i'm really sorry so don't cry. maybe next time". gosh. i don't know if he's insulting me, or if he thinks i'm a cry baby.

my parents are discouraging me to work because it's unnecessary. but i said i want it. look. i'm trying my best here but why can't anybody see that? can't they be happy to see their daughter realize the value of work at this age?

also, my friends, parents, and golf coach said i'm too picky. yeah.. there's some truth in what they said.. but i can't imagine myself doing something i don't like! it's hard to force a soul dude.

could it be that i look younger than my age? well when they see me, they say i look like a high school student. HELLO!! is a 5'5 female too small to look like a 3rd year college student?

and here's the weird part. our house assistant told me that i should not bring my automobile when applying for a job. she said i should look poor and pitiful so the employer would have mercy on me. WTF? do i have to walk with charcoal on my face?

now, i only have on choice left. and that is, to become a Student Assistant, where all i have to do is stay in the library and stamp on books during my free time. but it's toooo simple. and i don't think i'm fit to work in a library since i'm totally not a book worm. i might fall asleep while working.

sorry if it's too long.
i was thinking that it might help you evaluate my nature.

please give me any suggestions.
but please don't make me cry because of horrid responses.

thank you for reading.

you think i did not know what you just typed in there? you low life freak!

i may not be a German, but i'm not stupid to not understand all the crap that you just said --you uncivillized blonde with a brain of a single-celled monkey!

this is for you:

"Ich bin nicht eine weibliche arabischen, aber ich denke, sie sind schön. Stop-Beleidigung ihnen, weil sie sind ein hundert mal besser als Sie".

"I'm not a female Arab, but I think they are beautiful. Stop insulting them, because they are a hundred times better than you".

would you hire me as your gardener or some lowly job if you read in my resume that i am currently a student of Philippine Military Academy or some high class school, my surname and address is located in some elite part of the city, and my parents name and work are well talked of ?

I may have the skills you need but you sure would be intimidated. I would then be considered over qualified for your job requirements and thus denied unless you have a secret grudge at me ,my family or people like me and it would be fun for you to see me do things I should not be doing.

I just know what jobs you are fitted in, that is in banking or marketing. I would hire you because you already have connections and potential clients. Life here is more exciting. You are excellent and has the passion in drawing, try animation too.

add:
i know a well off friend who let her son worked in a handicraft business as a "varnisher" . The owner is a friend of hers and refused if only not when she said she would be the one paying for her son's wages so that he would be exposed to worked in such odd works. Just by his appearance, he was very intimidating, he's half german , very handsome.

to GRO: please show some respect for this kid. She's a nice person and not "mukhang katulong". She is pretty. I know you just like to be funny and I like many of your lines, but not this time.

how about housemaid? you do have the look of a katulong?

somehow this tirade of yours comes off as a bad rip-off of a paris hilton's "simple life" episode. you try to show how humble you are, but at the same breath you allude to how 'sosyal' your life is.

epic fail. i still have to meet an island monkey with class.

....how about whoring or GROing, since you 'speak' english so well?

attitude counts a lot honey...

Sorry, but you just like my daughter made the 3 biggest mistakes you can make when job hunting. 1) Never tell a prospective boss what you will or will not do. (That is the bosses job) 2) use your family name as a pressure. (unless your family owns the company all you are doing is making them upset.) 3) never go job hunting while bored, angry, or upset. (it makes you look very immature)

From your response I believe that you will find a job to start with. Don't set your sites too high or too low. And I think it is great that you would like to prove yourself, I wish my daughter had but she just wanted to be able to say she had been job hunting so I would not cut off her allowance.

well, you just have to be sure first on WHERE you really wanna work, evaluate the things that interest you,..and once you're set, you could start grooming yourself to suit that position.

The HRD (or anyone who decides on hiring employees) assess applicants on different aspects, not just on mere technical qualifications. Most, I would say strongly prefers individuals who are "riped" and mature (and this doesnt necessarily implies literal age)..who wouldnt crack up on ordinary pressures on a working environment.

When you apply for a job, dress aptly (not overdressed nor underdressed). If you appear to be overqualified, then they wont hire you (for fear that you wont be satisfied with the job and eventually leave the post, thus wasting their time).

I would say that your desire to work and to gain experience is really commendable, though i honestly feel that you are not emotionally ready yet. Just try to sort out your priorities and your goals in life, and what you really wanna do before embarking on decisions that you may regret later on. Hey, you're lucky, not everyone is given that privilege and luxury to "sort things out" you know.

Anyway good luck :D

are you out of your mind young lady? why take a part time job if you're wealthy enough to drive your own automobile and play golf at an early age of 19? what's wrong with kids nowadays anyway? what more is missing in your happy life?

anyway, if i was the employer, i wouldn't hire you either.. because spoiled brats will just leave their job after getting bored.. and that's just troublesome.

also, that's you in the avatar right? you do look young to be a college student. well, you really look like a high school student. probably because you don't experience any hardships so you're not stressed with your life unlike those real part-time students who really need money.

You can sign up to become a volunteer for a good cause, share your wealth and you will not get bored indeed. It's very gratifying 'cause you are helping the needy while learning more about yourself. Also, you can start your own charitable organization. Good luck!

the way i see it, you don't need a job. i have a feeling that you are over-qualified for those kind of jobs, because you're well-off. see? even the manager of the golf city is scared of your parents, because something might happen to you during the training.

moreover, i think you should just give way to those who really need the job. example, the needy people. don't take the only job where they know how to earn money!

Crybaby Bob
Why don't you try volunteering at an organization that helps the needy? You want to work, you don't need the money and the poor could always use your help. Maybe ask the Catholic nuns or try Habitat for Humanity

Patience is a Virtue.
I think you just need to send job applications to twenty (20) more companies.

Tip: in every interview:
1. Always say "I'm very interested in the job" and ask toward the end "What are my chances in being accepted?" (usually here the interviewer is caught unprepared and will give you an honest eval.)
2. Ask an intelligent question about the company, usually in the part where the interviewer asks "any questions?" or "why our company?"
--Here it would be good to do your homework like check their website before going to the interview.
Questions like: How many employees are there in the company?
What's a typical organizational set up in the department, in case I get accepted? Who are the company's major Clients?

"Chance favors the prepared mind."

Good luck!

i can only give insight with regards to infonxx-- maybe they didn't hire you because you're not good enough in a) spelling, or b) typing.
it's a requirement that you be able to type fast enough. and they prefer someone who's a college grad.

also, a bit of humility is a plus when it comes to job hunting.

Haven't I told you last time to stay in school and focus on your "real job" i.e. being a student? :-)

Well anyway, you seem to be very determined. Many answers here have very good advice for you. So in addition, if you can't find anyone who will accept you, I know a good tip that I've heard many times before: *work in the government*. Go to the city hall and ask if they need an extra pair of hands in admin work. You may need to do it for FREE, so be prepared for that. Besides, if you're really after the experience, this should be no problem for you. You will most likely do tasks like running in and out of the offices and handing over documents, photocopying stuff, delivery of parcels (i.e. you'll be the courier), making emails, among other things.

Good luck!

* If you first don't succeed, try, try, again..and again.
* There is such as thing called internship. Tell them you need to get work experience. Give them your best effort for a month. Make them feel that they are losing a great worker if they let you go after.
* Like the others said, volunteer you time to charitable organizations.
* Your ninong/ninang may have a company of his own, ask him/her.
Good luck and Happy New Year!

Well, you are Filipino, so you know it is hard to get hired without a college degree. I think you might want to look for a SMALL business in which to work.

The economy is not horrible there, but the job seekers far outweigh the jobs. Maybe a good solution would to be a virtual assistant. Lots of jobs online....

try this http://www.blogcatalog.com/blogs/work-from-home-philippines/posts/tag/virtual%20assistant/

or http://nomadicwork.com

or http://philippines.adflakes.com/index.php/view+classifieds/id/123443/Virtual+Assistant+Jobs

Good luck. I am just a kano so maybe a Filipino can be more helpful.

*make sure u smile when u interview,if u wanna been hire for the customer services position such like Mc Donald or bakery shop

Tips:

1. During the interview, sell yourself. Tell them what you can do, not what you are not willing to do.

2. Get rid of arrogance. Even if you are fluent in English, when the interviewer hear you bragging about it and trashing local people, they may see you as a future liability, or simply get annoyed - since they started like those people. However, emphasizing that you are adept in English is a good move. Instead of saying "I'm better than everybody here because I grew up in USA!" say "I have used English since birth and I think I will be capable like everybody else to handle the job".

3. Be patient. You are still very young. A great future may be just in the horizon. So try and try until you succeeded.

4. Most important: here in Pinas, jobs are scarce, and people look for jobs to earn money, not because they are bored. Do you really need to work? Or you think it's just to satisy your vanity? Please make sure you know what you will go through and responsible enough otherwise go back to studying and go look for jobs when you are mature enough.

Because you would waste too much time here on YAP..lol.

Anyways, you don't seem to need to money so no big deal. Besides why would a manager hire you when there are 10 other well-qualified people just begging for that same job who need to feed, house and cloth their families? These guys would be more mindful of their work and hypothetically work harder and longer than someone who approaches it as an afterthought.

Count your blessings. You are surrounded by many others who have none.

being a student assistant looks okay. you should push through with that. it's weird because you want to work despite all. i myself can't afford to look for one because i'm lazy.

for first timers, job hunting is really a hunting job. yeah your situation is quite complicated too - rich gal who needs to prove to the world that you can do it though you don't need the pay.

getting a job is not(maybe not) the solution to your boredom. you should do what interest you - e.g. travel, explore, mingle & socialize get into music (well that's what i could think of right now). try ministry work- this will also sets your inner compass.

i do have some interesting points for you.

if you wanted to prove your self, then prove your self - get your hands dirty.
when i came back from Saudi no one would like to hire me because they can't pay me the salary I've been receiving. so i challenged the employer to pay me regular pay within 3months as construction supervisor and if i could increase the profit of the company in that short period they make me Jr. Architect. (I'm under license by the way). and so I'm now the Jr. Architect because i proved my self.

the Filipino way is "ninong" and "kompare"
tell your ninong - or friends of your parents or your classmates parents to hire you as a "executive assistant trainee"- basically you get to be an employee but under the cover of your ninong- the boss. since your a trainee they would not expect too much from you. :-))

get a job that fits you- mcdo are for routine employees - infoXX are for those who can take insults from unsatisfied costumers - for the Golf- i think your rather play that render services to players, its more fun playing don't you think? i think these are not the places where you would like to build a career.

yeah what fits you are jobs like executive assistant trainee, administrative assistant trainee or personal assistant.

hope i open new avenue for your search

You have to try to be more accomodating and accepting of what's currently available to you. The ideal, perfect-dream, part-time job may not even exist out there <yet> where you are. Therefore, you have to make certain sacrifices in your expectations to fit in with what's available to you at the moment. Then you try to progress to better & more likeable jobs as time goes by. Either via promotion within a company, or migrating to other/better jobs at other companies. You have to be as patient and flexible as possible. So until a better opportunity arises, try to be the best "above and beyond the call of duty" Student Assistant you can be. A first job can often be a lot worse than too boring or simple. Remember, it is called work for a reason ~ not play, so you really can't expect it to be fun all the time. That's what the weekends are for. Good luck! Don't give up!

Jecca
Unfortunately it seems like you would need to have some work experience for some of the jobs you would like to do. You mentioned that you speak english well but how is your customer service? You have to remember that when you are out looking for a job its all about presentation and what makes you stand out from your average person. You can't be to picky either. You can't dictate what job you will or will not do. To be a success you should approach it with the utmost humility. Alot of the people that are working are not doing it because they are bored. If you really want to find a job you have to be willing to do everything it requires. There are no special treatments for those who are bored.

I am sorry to hear that dear. You will have to wait until you graduate for you to be able to work. Anyway what is one year of waiting. Seems to me that you don't need the money for yourself... for the meantime why don't you apply as a volunteer to any organization to make use of your time.

:)

Steppin Stone
can't find a job? why don't you practice karaoke and get sent off to "entertain" in korea and turn into a money hungry juicy girl! Hope that helps. Hope you find this as humorous as I found your question. Don't take offense. Or should you?

Arc
Yep, you're picky.

It sounds like you don't really need the job, so why don't you just leave it to those who needs it? Well if you're really that bored then why don't you take up a new hobby? Or go out of town?

But if worst comes to worst, just get yourself a boyfriend. JK! xD

I am terribly sorry to hear your story. The truth hurts and it is coming to you pretty strong.

My fellow Yappers have given a whole lot of advice to digest and you can pick the keywords to learn them all lest you be confused. Just remember carry the big stick though you do not have to show them, exercise humility and and a little innovation to achieve your objectives in job hunting. Treat each failure as a learning experience, adjust next time and you will eventually get the position you want. Do not feel discouraged, there is always hope for a talented optimist like you. Good luck.

iscikedelic
Here is what I experienced some 3 years ago. I was a assistant supervisor in an fine dining restaurant. My well-off friend like you was seeking for a job so he can learn the value of hardwork...so I told him that I will tell my boss and recommend him. I immediately text him to come over when my boss told me that he wants to meet him. My boss is positive he would hire him because we need a waiter that time. But then when he arrived with his BMW...oppss....my boss was like? Is that car his? I said, "Yes, sir".
To make the long story short...he was rejected. My boss told me in Tagalog "Naku, mas maganda pa ang kotse sa akin, di nyan kelangan trabaho...".
I have a feeling that my boss distrust or not confident that he will be a "hard worker" and will be just a lazy worker.

I think that you should keep trying and try to look simple during the interview. Avoid wearing expensive clothes or well...just don't look expensive! I think you will finally get a job one of these days. I started working at Jollibee when I was 17 and when the manager learned about my situation (that my father and mother just separated and I need job badly to support studies blah blah, with no remorse I was hired versus huge number of applicants that time).

You must try to do some kind of a different strat like hummm.....your parents doesn't give you allowance anymore! Ha ha!
I think you should try applying at TGIF....
and another thing is try to apply online.
Jobstreet.com is a good site and will call you for an interview almost right away.
Keep it up!
