This is Malaysia. You know, I know, almost every one know. But We better don't talk about it.

hushpuppy
jedi, as much as i appreciate and like your questions... i really dont know how to give you an answer that i would feel comfortable with. all these questions that start with "why", you know only the stupid government can answer you. but if you asked "how" i feel or "what" do i think about it... that's perhaps easier.

hmm...something new to me
last week i was just passing Convent School in Butterworth and I saw the big cross still there.
are you sure?
is it a directive from the ministry or just some funny funny thing being raised in the parliarment ?

My advice: Jangan mudah melatah [never easily jump into conclusion]

GarisHalus [4th Edition]
who said so? look at St Michael Institution Ipoh, Ave-Maria Convent, La Salle KL etc etc

research is more important than reading

Well, who cares of what is written. Better look at what is actually seen. I can also see Crosses at the schools mentioned above, but I'm yet to see any Islamic symbols (like moon and star, which by the way is mistakenly taken as Islamic symbol) at any school. I studied in Muslim majority schools, but I never see any imam came to any of my schools to deliver public sermon, only closed ones in surau by ustaz but not imam.

We are living in a Muslim country, what can we do? Sometimes when I hear or see that I felt "non of my business" but forced to listen also even don't understand a word at all.

i really think its disrepectful to be quoting from the quran and the bible.especially when its done in bits and pieces without thorough study. misinterpretations are always started this way-by someone trying to show they are such smart asses.

i think the suggestion to bring down the crosses is a regardable one. it creates aneutral environment for children to at least study in. because you do not see public schools enforcing any religious symbols.

and which public school have their non muslims listening to the imam's sermons?? do you even know when these sermons are held??

geez, dude i think you really need to migrate. you're a threat to the stability of the nation.

Wow, you all really write very very long statements .....

Well, in short, well-educated and open minded Muslims would respect all other religions, like most of the friends around me.

Jedi,
You are the very few users here who ask proper questions, PP is always here to support good questions.

United-Champions,
Ya lor, everybody don't fight la, all religions are holy and good.

In Malaysia, schools should not be associates with any movements or specified thougths especially politics and religions. Even if there are government funded muslim religion school but then the function is rather not to produce an enlightened muslim academicians/ulama'/even politicians as those who graduates from the school are ending up to be one of participants of Malaysian capitalism. Education in Malaysia is not about being religious or politically enlightened.. But to produce the human capital which meets the quality as stated by the country's National Mission..
To be precise.. Malaysia is not a muslim country; if they're muslim country then there'll be Islamic Law (known as Shariah and hudud) as well as their monetary system will be based on dinar (relatively relying on the value of gold)..same goes to economy system.. But reality they are worshipping capitalism very much where money, economy and statistics become the main subject of interest in discussion board to any news/media..and the leaders seems to empowering themselves to gain more from this system. Yet to be exact of all what i said, the country is only chasing the money and the value for certain people while several moslem people dreaming to build the Islamic nation but severely still dreaming of that then what about you?..What does it tells you if religion is only a custom and culture with a simple practice to every Malaysian and not a real way of life and the real way to produce the right human capital?.. Bring any imam/pope/priest for a sermon to the intended students.. I bet it'll be still the same.. Malaysia never cares about any religion..They are just capitalism worshippers.

United-Devils
just shush with the Al-Quran part...stop posting religious questions will u? and stop questioning other people's religion, even if u are an atheist, u do not have the rights to question other people's religion. it is a very sensitive issue, not that we're too shallow or whatever, we feel that statements without PROPER BASIS like these, are disrespectful. because we DO NOT even question other religions. there are also many contradictions about the bible (many have stated, in which i DO NOT REALLY CARE), and trust me, a lot can be said about OTHER religions too, but a sane person would at least try to ignore other people's religions' so called problems, and accept the diversity of religions of the people around them.

if u think that u are so smart, why dont u go and quarrel and state ur cases with a real ustaz or imam, ask the knowledgeable men and women about it, record it, and show us the video, and let us see the so called truth that u claim. i'd be glad and ill honour u if u can prove what you've said is right. this is yahoo answers, but certain answers cannot be found and obtained through this way. only intellects can identify what is to be asked and what is not, and please do review urself before posting questions.

if u hate most of the things that happen in this country, i do hope u get rich and migrate as soon as u can.

edit: P P, the question here is ok, i mean yes its a bit provocative, but its ok, but the explanations, bringing out verses in the Quran, while not knowing the true meaning of it, is disrespectful, its like questioning the truth of the religion...

edit no 2: jedi, with all due respect, did i even say i wanna live like the arabs? please stop putting words in my mouth. and thank you mr. Knight, i'm glad u got what i mean, thank god our friends with different religions do not behave like u know who.

johanssm
i would love to answer this question, but i already commented in Malaysia Today or m2day.
Perhaps Hindraf was nearly right about the "ethic cleansing" thingy.
Just need to find a better word for it.

This is the very reason as to why you all be registered as voters.
By doing so is not enough,if you dont go to the polling station on voting day. Last time my thinking was very pro-barisan.But no more.It is time for a change.
Do change for the better or worse.
This is the very reason as to why religions and politics must be separated.Do leave religion at home or places of worship.
Do not enforce on others

Not all non christian people have the courage to face the truth. They feel the other religion as threat because they dont have self confidence in their faith themselves.

Well, that goes very well with the slogan: "unity through diversity" don't you think... The Malays (at least certain politicians) want to imitate the Saudi Arabians. I mean, they have to, because the Malays are Muslims, and thus they must imitate the Arabs (or so goes their train of thinking, because the rest of the world seems to imitate the Americans). Further: we have to eradicate the Muslim Malay culture, it is not true Muslim (but it has grown so wonderfully and uniquely since the 15th century in this country, and its people are Muslim, are they not?). Next step: remove all churches. Then: no more Christmas decorations in shopping malls, streets and outside private houses; no more Christian holidays. Then: veil up all women, and keep them away from all public work (teachers, doctors, drivers...). Ah, we'll surely progress much faster that way, and it will attract even more tourists....

Uh, good that this is only a proposal AT THE MOMENT. But the scenario could well look like above listed (minus of course the progress and tourists, so important for Malaysia's economy). Has not PAS once stated that if it should come to power it would transform Malaysia into a Taliban state?

Fortunately there are many intellectual Malays who have already asked 'why do we need to be like Arabs just because we are Muslims, don't we have our very own and unique culture in this country, the Malay culture?'. It needs more, many more of those, because they are enlightened!

-------

Yes, Matilda, we are lucky to be here... but that is how it starts... let's hope for the best for Malaysia and that reason prevails!

Malaysia is a democratic country and it guarantees freedom of religion, however, non-Muslims such as Buddhists and Hindus are having a hard time to practice their religion.

As a Muslim myself, I'm embarrassed of what my Muslim brothers/sisters have done to non-Muslim Malaysians. In the Medina Charter, the Prophet (pbuh) guarantees freedom of religion for non-Muslims (Pagans and Jews) in Medina and because of that, peace is observed everyday.

Malaysia does this to force non-Muslims to convert to Islam, they (The Government) are trying to expose non-Muslims to the Islamic Life, however, the beauty of Islam cannot be seen because it was done forcefully.

It is stated in the Holy Qur'an:
[2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion.

Malaysia is not Islam and so are the Islamic Countries that has no freedom of religion.

I repeat again, I'm not a CHRISTIAN and is a MUSLIM. I don't believe the basis of Christianity and therefore, I do not support Christianity by doing this. Many verses in the Bible contradicts each other and the scientific facts are not accurate.

REPLY TO Jedi Sapiens: I don't understand your question, do you mean the contradictions or the inaccurate scientific facts?
I do not point this because I hate or dislike Christians, I only dislike some of their belief (Islam has a lot of similarity to Christianity, so not all), not the people.

Here you go. I could go on but I stop here. I must admit that I only find a few of contradiction in the Bible because I didn't read all of them yet, my friend (who is online now and older than me) helps me because he has read (And research) the Bible and the Tanakh. He, too, finds a lot of contradictions in the Bible.

btw, I disagree with Christians encouraging debate with Evolutionist. Most of them disapprove the theory of Evolution and comes with no proof (Other than their Holy Bible's verse). Christians are not the only free thinkers, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists all are free thinkers. It's just that some Muslims in Malaysia have problems.
