Yes I agree.
Here in Malaysia when a guy/girl says hi to a girl/guy you think (s)he's flirting with her/him ( Which is actually their intention anyway....)
No one ( Or atleast not much) say hi/ smile to strangers around here, like in a friendly non flirtatiously way.
I liked being in a foreign country where strangers greet you all the time. They have that really fake enthusiasms sometimes but i loved it. |

apart from the built-in self protective mentality, we are also brought up to mind our own business.
in places where life is abit rush, it is also hard to expect people say hi or even smile to each other when they cross paths.
i have lived under both atmosphere, and i must say i really do like the hi how are you sort of lifestyle. |

Because here when total strangers (especially the locals) say 'Hi' to you with all smile, 99% chance is that they are looking for one thing from your pocket ...
"cool hard CASH $$$$" ... by
a) asking you to buy something that you don't need
b) telling you how miserable they are when they are not
c) offering you some 'protections' from themselves?!
off course, if you are very handsome / beautiful, soemtimes they may ask for your 'friendship' rather than $$$ :) |

because we have many other ways to greet people.
why saying 'ada baik ka' or 'sudah makan ka' to strangers is not their culture?
-edit-

who's culture what culture?
there are many cultures a person can belong to so wich one are you refering to?
are you refering to the american culture?
If you are thats hard to answer it depends on the circumstance and where you might be? people do say hello to strangers but also may not just depending on the location!
I would like to answer your question properly but you didnt really give us much detail |

Becoz its already in ourselves since we were born.
Its like we've been 'forcing' to accept it by all members of our family and surroundings too.
We're not the humble culture. We're polite (well. ugh.. some)but not humble.
anyway, u are stranger to me and hi there...~wink~ |

Done that with foreign colleagues. We always greets each other. If I have to go through 30 people, then the very busy mouth can't stop greeting everyone. Every culture have their on ways. If Malay "Hoi! Hoi ya hoi!" |
