I don't think you are insulting. It is a question in everyone's mind. This is a free speech forum, and there is nothing wrong with you expressing your view. The only insults are the muslim-controlled media by only limiting to Islamic talkshows.

Groovy, you should be ashamed of yourself to limit people to what they can ask or not. Its a free country and anyone can ask anything, even if you are not comfortable with the question. Just grow up.

Personally, I feel the question is a legitimate one and Groovy... should not get upset about it as the government and the media had publicly said over and over again that Malaysia is a multi-racial, multi-religion and multi this and multi that country, yet in everything they do, they are very pro towards the major race. You never see other talk shows before is it?
Let me guide you for being narrow minded & shallow.

Buddhist talks shows - TV2 usually in the morning, 8TV & NTV7 also got. They run per seasons.

Hindu - TV2 usually in the evening. How I know? coz. usually before some cooking shows & cartoon will have.

Christian talk shows - usually it's shown along with some kids talk show. In sense of story telling like Jesus, the stories from Bible & etc. TV1 & TV2.

Because the popularity & most people DO NOT watch them, thus based on analysis if there's no demand it's taken off air.

How I know?
Coz. I work behind the scene before.
It's hard to produce a talk show, airtime, get sponsors & even harder to maintain the certain percentage of CONSTANT watchers.

For Buddhist & Christians, usually people go to the various temples/church respectively itself.
Buddhist prefers to chant & attend the seminar itself to speak to the teachers & monks themselves. It's flexible but usually day time it's conducted.

As for Christians, since they've Friday performance & Sunday schools & mass so it's like talk shows itself but not on TV.

Bear in mind, the percentage of non-Muslims that really into religion honestly I would say isn't that high. Many don't even have the time for talk shows or even attend mass except during Xmas or special performance.
As for Buddhist, Taoist & etc., same as well. Most don't even watch such shows on TV. They've their own special DVDs & sessions for those active ones in temple besides bootcamp for Buddhist associations.
How do I know?

Because I participated in both activities while religion searching. I'm glad I'm free to search & practise my own religion without having anyone forcing me.
Currently, I'm a free thinker that read Scientology stuffs (no no I'm not Alien nor Tom Cruise wannabe) & I've a lot of friends working in mass media for Astro, 8TV, TV3. I onced helped produce for NTV7 & TV2 kids, talk show on Christian stories & talkshows. My neigbhor across the road is the program manager in charge of among the schedules & programs for RTM aka TV1 & TV2.

I personally know a head guard (jaga), who's born in an Indian Muslim family but never really practised the real thing instead he was involved in Black Magic that tampers wth various religions & his knowledge of various religions verse like Islamic & Taoism & even sanskirt is pretty good. He bcm tht village local "datuk".
Eventually he married into a Hindu family thus changed his religion & name.
Complicated leh.
Thn he divorced.
And married a Chinese lady & convert bcm a Christian.
As for his kids, they followed since they wanna be Muslim so Muslim loh. As for the kid by the Chinese lady, since it's their choice 1 wanted to be Christian & another 2 wanted to be in Muslim so like that loh.
Thn. the lady divorce wth him coz. she went overseas to work & eventually dn't wanna come bck.
As for the old man, seriously I don't know. He told me he's free thinker. I see his house sometimes it reminded me of "bomoh" place full of arabic islamic verses, siamese statues, & etc. Never remarried again. No dn't mess wth his beautiful kids. But he's good man. Very well spoken & in manners he's very pious.

How I know him?
He's my friend's dad. Live just a few blocks away. Knew him since I was a kid.

Honestly maybe I'm lucky but around my area @ PJ. People are mostly free to practise their religion. Even those converts, if done in proper documentations follow the laws & etc. I don't see the problem. Even my uncle's adopted son's a Malay but not a Muslim bcs his family abandoned him & he never practised the religion Muslim. My uncle's family into Taoism but the Malay adopted son's a Christian. He's also the top 5 richest in his town & his town is populated wth Malays. Never get insulted or discriminated also.

So ppl. open your eyes.
As for those who felt you've endure injustice.
Follow proper procedures and I hope you'll get what you want.
Religion is doesn't promise you will go to heaven or hell.
Being you yourself, being genuine, not harming anyone else & in the end achieve your own dreams that's what matters.
Like the world will even remember your religion after you're dead, instead they will remember you for who you are.

Malaysia is an Islamic country, which is not fully practicing Islam. If it is, you guys wont be complaining. Despite having religious freedom, Malaysia is an Islamic country, which means that it has to abide the rules set by Islam, but sadly, she is not following it correctly. If you are not blind, you can see there are religious freedom in Malaysia, people are free to choose their religions, and there exists temples as well as churches in Malaysia, where they could discuss their religious talks. The reason why there are Islamic talkshows and none of the others are because Malaysia is an Islamic country, with Muslim being its majority, therefore, to make sure that Muslim gets to know what they need to know, the Muslims make talkshows.. If you are really deprived of a hindu talkshw, ask some other hindu's to make talkshow on youtube or any other website. If you do not like Malaysia, you could go to indonesia. You can survive there.. Food almost the same, culture almost the same, except they are not an Islamic country, despite having the largest Muslim population. Peace

to answer your question, well you know the media is controlled fully by the government. it is for the same reason why you only see the ruling government representative giving talks (and bull.shits on tv) and never the opposition. heck opposition isnt even allowed much talk outside of tv. banned newspaper, website closed down, computers ransacked... you get the drift. the truth is, nicole, on this land of ours, sadly the ones who have less security about themselves speak the loudest. anything everything they do to cover up others' mouth. ghee look at this question thread of yours. no feedback makes sense - just too much of babbling hoping to divert your attention. you know what i mean, right? ;-)

I'm with Groovy on this one. From my Singapore room and found this is very insulting indeed. You cannot blame M'sia only, come to Singapore and the Malay here is being left out, only 20% of the kenaikan pangkat in govt is reserved for the Malays. Lots of professional Malays had to left to Arab countries and UK, this Pak Cik told me. Here if you don't speak Chinese it going to be harder to get a job.

On the Islamic TV talk shows, if you hate it just switch to other channel there are 40 other different channels.

The non Muslim in M'sia should be greatful bcoz there is no war, killings ....and the Muslim in M'sia has accepted you as part of M'sian. The Malay has been a very nice people and please don't provoke us further.

Hmm.. maybe becouse Malaysian especially the Muslim community are not ready yet for inter-religion talkshows. I suppost this have been the effects made by the British long time ago,the separation between races during the colonial period.

As far I am concern, All talkshows, including those Islamic talkshows are regulated by the Ministry of Communication. Therefore in the terms stated that they should not offended other religion. As far as i,m concern, after watching those Islamic talkshows, they never criticise or condemned other religion.

Yes.. our country should have religious freedom like what you said. but are we ready and willing to bare the cost?. The latest case in the media about a priest from England said about applying islamic laws for muslim community. the chirstian community get offended by his comment.

so my point is..even the western people claimed that they practices freedom of religion, yet they also have a stigma over other religions. For us, we are going to achieve the freedom of religion in the future, yet we must take a very carefull steps and actions for the benefit of all.

It is better for all tv station in malaysia to show islamic programs 24 hour , 365 days.
This way we can always have time to read some good books,spend time with friends and family, save electricity and as well as a good way to avoid any false and bias propagandas made by bn government.

Plus we will have ample time to surfs the net looking for alternative news and entertainment.
In other words, let them "Allahu" all they wants to on tv.
As it will have no effects or goodness at all.

***It is not appropriate to air the teachings of the Buddha, as buddhist prefers to be low profile and not to boastful of the teachings of Buddha. Therefore , talkshow will not be appropriate.

The answer is a big YES.
Islam lays claim as been the only 100% truth as a religion.
And all other religion other than islam are a complete FALSE.
Therefore islam is actually a closed chapter religion.
In other word , it is closed minded.
But still it wanted to be "seen" as a progressive and full with compassion type of religion.

It's sad that I have read Western media reports that Malaysia government laws allow people of other religions to convert to Islam, but it disallows Muslims to convert to Christianity or other religions...Also, I read that Christian evangelization is not allowed in Malaysia...this is tragic...

I respect Islam and Muslims, but I strongly believe that freedom of religion is essential part of a genuine democratic society. I hope and pray that Malaysians of all faiths and races will work for freedom of religion...

Islam is the official religion in Malaysia. Those Islamic talks shows are meant to relay the teaching of Islam to the Muslims in Malaysia and hopefully to interested non-muslims as well.

The government wants Muslims and hopefully non-muslims as well to learn about Islam as much as possible through the media but they do not want Muslim to learn about other religions. That's why we don't see talks shows on other religions on Malaysia TV. Islam is not a "bad" religion. I don't understand why the government is so worry that Muslims will start losing faith in Islam once they learn about other religion. To me the government and islamic scholars feel insecure of Islam themselves. A true Muslim will still be a Muslim eventhough he has learned about other religion.

When Malaysia was form it never proclaim it as a Muslim country it's only the main religion. Those people are trying to manipulate and exploit those people to vote Barang Naik. Society that are insecure with their believe will always deny the truth
