hahaha...welcome to malaysia, macam-macam ada.hehehe
he probably think that malays(moslem) can't consume food prepared by chinese(non-moslem). there are some chinese (especially uneducated one and never have enough exposure mix around with non-chinese) thinking that way. some uneducated malays also thinking that way too

he's infact a very kind person and want to help/save you from mistakenly breaking what he think as moslem rules/law

next time you go and buy again from him and tell him that it's ok, no problem. help him in understanding by giving some education

i'm sure he'll be happy as he can now sell his drinks to everybody

Bean
I wouldn't put too much thought into it dear. He probably had a bad day and was pissed off by everything, it's just unfortunate that you happened to be there at that particular time. Please try to forgive him, that's the best we can do.

i think he is a VERY honest Chinese guy. He could have sold u the drink made some profit out of it. Most probably realizing he consumes pork in his stall; he refused. Or maybe the malay hawker guy would have whacked him if he takes away malay customers… (it happens in certain areas). Knowing his a chinese, ( sorry to say, must have been uneducated one) Chinese and indians do have habit talking loud. dont stereotye them to be rude. Esp ah-peks and Indians they do talk loud. If he was an old ah pek, then you should consider deafness for talking loud. So conclusion, chill la shayna.

anderson
you didnt offend anyone one, that guy is telling you that his stall is a non halal place and you should go to malay stall instead. otherwise you be having problem with the muslim official of having food at non halal place

drjenlee
he is tryin to say that his stall is non halal n therefore direct u to another malay drink stall instead. he is jus tryin to b nice ..however..he probably did not put in a nicer manner or nicer tone ..forgive him for his ignorance or mayb he aint tat educated ,,

JuNiPeR SixTeEn
i agreed with chickencurry...maybe he's trying to be honest and telling you that his stall maybe serve non-halal..

I think that is one of the faces of Malaysia. But things should be better than say 5-6 years ago.

I visit Thailand/Malaysia/Singapore once every 2-3 months and I use to visit hawker centres and other roadside stalls. You see this almost daily. Certain states are worst, others very good and friendly.

Sarah
i have been in worst situation. My mom is eurasion, so i look like a malay. During the puasa (fasting) month, 2 policeman confronted me and scolded me for eating at a shop. It was embarrsing cause people were looking. Then i told them i was not a muslim. They didnt believe me. They asked for my ID. I showed them then they looked at each other, then i ask the policeman 'do you want more prove, i took out my chain with a cross on it and showed it to them. Then only they apologized and left. So shayna, dont worry, but as a muslim you are not allowed to even drink or buy anything in a non-muslin shop...Malaysian rules

boo
I'll tell you why. Because the chinese are extremely supressed in Malaysia. There, (in Malaysia) all priorities are given to the Malays, imagine you even have a column which asks you your race in all kinds of government forms!! The government themselves are indirectly and subtlely putting racism into the minds of it's people. Can understand why most chinese is not really friendly towards the other races. Government have these "special" treatments for the Malays, check out the quotas of students accepted in local universities, check out the Malaysia laws whichs states that every position in a multi national country MUST have a quota for the Malays. You tell me.

Malaysia is a muslim country, even non pork item but not halal, the muslim will never take or go near it. All chinese drink stall are not halal.

Jedi K
the reason you were scolded by the hawker because he is racist.. sometime there are some people who born to be racist

Firstly I doubt the accuracy of your 'story' because the Chinese prioritize business first... always! It is highly unlikely that he would tell a customer to buy nextdoor.

Secondly Malaysian Chinese, Indian and Malays have always patronize each others' business without any qualms about what race runs the business. It has been harmonious for years without a reported incident of discriminatory practice.

Finally IF at all it did happen I'm surprised that you understand the malay language so well considering you were asking about conditions about KL Malaysia. It seems like you know Bahasa Melayu pretty well Shayna.

claudieelicious
i dun think tht happens to alot of ppl. it does not generally happen in malaysia. i see loads of chinese ppl eating in malay stalls n loads of malay ppl eating in chinese HALAL stalls.

it was probably a one of thing n the hawker guy was probably having difficulty with his rival neighbours. they probably vendalise his stallls when he serves malays or something cos naturally, a chinese business man would NEVER chase away any customer!! its just not in their nature

that chinese actully a good person, because he know muslims can't eat non-halal foods, and he warn about that to you (in his scold).he deserve to warn you if his foods are really not halal.but i not sure his drink halal or not.i'm a muslim and i never go to any non-muslim restaurant before to eat food or drink.maybe, next time you just go to muslims restaurant.

momoe
maybe it's a non halal stall..but he just didn't know a nicer way to tell you that.halan and non halal is a relatively important issue here in malaysia.the government is very particular about it.

p/s:is that ur real face shayna?haha can't really tell wether u are a malay...(for me lah..) no offense ok!

Shah
WOW ! I'm shocked at the way he treated you. Well, I can tell ya if this happened in Malaysia, that guy is surely looking for trouble. Got a death wish or something. I know many people that would react unreasonably for much less. People should not feel unwelcome here, especially Malaysians.

I hope you did not make this up,Shayna, cause this question really upset me & will to many others. Racism is a sensitive issue.

K, I believe you, Shayna. Many people out there are still the same as years ago .Agree to disagree, Boss. Wah ! Shayna got face already. Like to see how the rest of the regulars look like. Bet Sarah is pretty...lol.

Unfortunately I have no idea what that translates as, so there's no way to evaluate what was said. I'd probably ignore it.
