I also wonder ......... when people ask questions to be consulted with speciliests. I find it the best site for a perfect use of my little knowledge. You know points have no gift here. But if any one of my advise solves your purpose , it's great and this I know if I get 10 points. It's test of my knowledge.

Actually the two points don't even matter anymore.

Firstly, to show my support to the Questioner, so that he/she will feel good that so many people are at least interested in his/her Q.

Secondly, to let the other answerers know that I support their answers and also indirectly let them know that they do not have monopoly over the answers.
