it would really depend on how the government would react to this atrocity. justice and peace should be paramount on their agenda now.** |

I can only hope that the GRP will do measures to address this issue. Too many lives had already been sacrificed, including lives of civilians. The struggle for peace in Mindanao has been and will be a long and painful process. Nothing has ever been resolved in negotiations. The military said they will not declare a total war on the Abu Sayaf and MILF; but, will conduct "punitive measures."
Nevertheless, Mindanao is not the Philippines. The rest of the country is safe for traveling. |

I honestly believe that it won't help.
Any country tagged with the line "beheading" is considered unsafe for most travelers.
I wouldn't spend my vacation in a country if the latest headline from there includes the phrase "mandatory mass-castrations". |

I'm afraid it just put us back in the headlines again. More travel advisories from govts/embassies everywhere have being issued cautioning their people to avoid the Philippines esp. Mindanao (yeah again!). Yes, we are doing everything to keep the tourists safe but we need a more pro-active stance rather than a re-active posture. One high-profile case (albeit isolated) is one too many. |

Unfortunately, It's enough proof that our country is not that safe to travel anymore especially at Mindanao area. I really don't understand the Abu Sayyaf's goal in life. They are very inhuman. <*-*> |

Hopefully but very remote. It will take a strong-willed leader to do it.
Cheers. |

The Philippines has always had bad publicity. It is really unfortunate. I am glad that the Marines are willing to step up and do the job, but people need to start looking at the country more positively. I hope tourism there can only grow. |

I think what they did to these soldiers made the situations in south Philippines worst. more soldiers were sent to capture the bandits. There are some places in the Philippines considered to be a safe place. ask your embassy in the Philippines |

No. Getting out of poverty is the only way the Philippines will become safer to travel. |
