Would $2.8m be enough to live a life of luxury? |
earning 6 figures, eating out, being cool, driving a luxury sports car, watching sports on your 42" TV and vacationing in Europe
I work for an organization that spent about $2.8M into the Philippines in 2006 and a little bit more by the end of this year, by way of programs and projects in education and healthcare. |

I suppose it depends on your definition of a life of luxery. Could you buy literally everything you ever wanted and hob-nob with the rich and famous? Unless your everything you ever wanted can be found at Wal-Mart, probably not.
However since with 2.8 million dollars even in the most basic of savings accounts you could easily get an interest rate with an APY of 4% which would yield over $112,000 dollars a year (and that's just usung a flat calculation, not taking into account compounding the interest), which is more than enough to live a pretty nice life without ever working or worrying about where your next paycheck will come from. And that's just with the most basic savings/investment plan. Obviously you could get more creative and get a better APY / ROI than 4%. |

It is enough if an individual owns it but an organization that owns it make you question the depth or capacity of that organization because it is definitely a little amount that can probably last an organization for just 6 months.
$2.8 M is a big amount of money that a person can live with for less than a decade if an individual owns it. But if its an organization then it's just enough to help out some people in the present. $2.8M is a good amount of money but only for a small organization. A lot of companies have have more than 10 times that amount or even Millions of dollars to invest in the Philippines. It might be good in rural areas though for a short while. |
