I have lived here a few years now without any problems. You don't need to know Chinese, I still know very little because it just isn't necessary.
Crime really is not bad here despite what others have said. Crime here is less than in America. I feel very safe at anytime of the day or night. Just remember to always offer less money when you buy something, 50% less! Haggling is the standard here. |

I have lived in China two years. A few months is nothing. Its great-friendly, safe, fun.. Beijing is however heavily polluted so beware going there from Nov to April especially. Great place great people. |

Yes I do live in China, as for living there for the rest of my life, I think I would miss home and family too much.
As for living under there thumb, I have not felt it. Apart from the time a kind looking policeman had his hat blown off in a gust of wind. Luckily I caught it in mid air before it it of blown onto the busy road and handed him back. He was grateful and thanked me and seem pleased that someone way out of there way to help him. |

If you read some of the comments from certain people in this section (I would bet my right hand that they are from a couple of people and their ghost accounts), you may think that Chinese hate Americans and the West in general. However, I can tell you that this is not the case for the vast majority of Chinese who are very gracious and friendly people. Of course, some cultural differences may at times appear offensive for Westerners, but the same can be said of the opposite. Living and visiting China can be a challenge at times, but if you have an open mind and are accepting of differences in culture and customs, it is nevertheless an experience that will enrich your life. |

If its for business then I would say yes. I don't think that it might be difficult to live there, it depends on whether you might like the city or not. I would compare China to New York or any other upscale city in the United States. There is a lot of pollution, but doesn't any other city have pollution too? There is a mix of food history with China. Different regions associate with different types of food. China is a bit more interesting, it has a lot of history for different types of cities. China has a lot of tourist places to go to and different cities to visit. There is a lot of diverse places to go and things to do.
I don't think that you'll need to learn much Chinese. Some citizens there can speak English, look for tour guides that can help you out with your travels. But it can tricky. Different cities have different dialects of the Chinese language so its a bit confusing for you to travel.
People go to the movies, listen to music, and go shopping in malls. It's no different than the United States. I'd suggest that you research a bit more on China. |

The worst thing about living there would be the pollution. Given that you are from America you may not notice it so much however. It is also very crowded particularly in the cities. |

If you can make some good money, go for it! While you're there you can try picking up some basic mandarin. This is how my dad managed to make double the amount he gets as an accountant in North America in a 3 year period. |

Yes, I would live in China. There are tons of foreigners in China, especially in the large metropolitan areas. Tons of people in China speak English. You might have some trouble getting adjusted to the lack of variety in dairy though. Since you're from USA and we have a lto of milk and stuff there. They have it in China,b ut its more expensive and you don't have a lot of choices in milk. Watch out for people trying to scam you since you're a foreigner. But I would definitely live in China...I did for 2 months last summer. |

Heck yes, I went once and I want to move there. I love the place - such lovely helpful people. I loved it and I cant wait to move, the atmosphere is absolutely incredible - the culture, history, food - its beyond words - Im in NZ so this is saying alot about the place. My kids have now been enrolled at school there and they will be leaving NZ for China after the Olympic Games have finished. We have great sponsors so I cant wait to go. Viva la Chine. |

I wish I could live there for a while. My impressions when I went for 3 wks on my own (no travel agent, never travelled outside US before, totally alone and going on my basic chinese and fluent english) were very good. People nice. Culture is quite different, so you may want to read up on it if you have no experience with Chinese culture... However, reading and vacationing are nothing compared to what one experiences when living in a culture, which is why I want to live there! However, I'd bring all my own batteries from the US since sometimes they sell you used ones. :) |

look out tricky small business owners might rip you off since you don't understand any Chinese...and it depends on which region of China you plan to go...
urban areas: watch out dirty, polluted air, people, traffic,(hundreds of bikes on the streets), robberies...
rutual areas: ...no idea...probably even worse than urban areas...
However, I ain't no kidding you Chinese is really hard to learn in a short period of time... |
