I totally agree with LUVINHIM, she brought many good points about many filipinos (especially the youth) who are raised or born abroad. I grew up in the West, but was born in the Philippines, and what I have realised when growing up as a young filipino is that many other filipinos try to associate themselves to the culture of our neighbouring asians, or the spanish or americans.
One time, I remember my friend (also filipino) would say "Yea, proud to be asian!" and would do anything that is significantly chinese, japanese, or korean. Nothing wrong with learning another culture that interested him, but what got to me was when he RARELY shows anything that I consider significantly FILIPINO! Like why? Is it that many of us filipinos refuse to accept their unique heritage that they would rather associate to something that seems socially "acceptible" in their eyes or the eyes of others? What's even sad is that there are so many of them who continue to deny their blood and culture...
After reading many of the answers here, I am very thankful and pleased that there are still enough filipinas and filipinos out there who stay true to themselves, whether they are in our mother country or the nation abroad. Stay true to yourself, my fellow filipinos! PINOY THROUGH AND THROUGH! |

No, even if I want to I can't because I look every inch like a Filipino. Anyway, despite some adverse opinions about my fellow countrymen, I am still proud to be a Filipino. I AM A FILIPINO THROUGH AND THROUGH. |

Never. I'm proud of the fact that I am a Filipina, and I always will be. In fact, I'm so proud of it that I always get into fights against the Filipino-hating racists on neatvibe.com. I think I just got kicked off the site for inciting chaos. :D |

I am not a filipino, neither by blood nor by nationality. But I've been here for a long time and would never deny the fact that I consider myself "filipino" in many ways. Why deny something that you are closely attached to in one way or another??? |

no, & even though most times i am mistaken for a vietnamese, cambodian, thailander, malaysian, chinese or anything but pinoy.
& yes even by fellow filipinos. & to most foreigners us asians look the same, although they have mistaken me as a hispanic man many many times, i would answer back in spanish whenever i can, but no i have not denied that i am a filipino. |

i don't deny being a filipina and yes, i eat rice. what i don't understand is why a lot of filipinos argue about whether they're asian or pacific islander especially in the US.....heck! i just say i'm pinay...take it or leave it. also, i find it funny when a lot filipino-americans try to say they're part spanish when they don't have proof that they actually are.....the color of their skin and their noses say it all. hmm....come to think of it, even full filipinos from hawaii deny they're filipinos. like jasmine trias. i don't know if they showed the entire AI show in pinas but on her first interview on the show as sort of an "intro" she said she's hawaiian and spanish. didn't mention being pinay at all and then all of a sudden when she finally got voted off, she became so famous in pinas. why? there are clearly dozens of singers waaaay better than her who could easily win AI. hmmm... |

Anytime!
I just love being Antipatiko.
But consider that I look very much like a Chinese or a Thailander, as someone else above is, and there's this rich Chinese millionaire looking for his lost heir, who bears a birthmark like so and so. I immediately implant myself with same birthmark, learn Mandarin or Cantonese or whatever.
Yep, I'm Chinese, sir, your long lost son.
Or, you are in a line where those who made you fall in have "katanas" on their hands, "katana" being the Japanese killing sword. "You Filipino?"
Nah! I'm your next door neighbor in Tokyo! |
