A battle is usually confined to one area, on land, at sea or in the air. It is part of a war between or among nations. To win one or two battles may not guarantee a nation of winning the whole war. So it is preferable to win the war because it is more decisive. However huge losses of soldiers and civilians in all nations participating in a war will occur, and in a modern nuclear war, no one really stands to win as resources will be depleted, buildings and other infrastructures will be destroyed, the treasures and wealth of a country may be confiscated and women will be raped. Just read the stories of the two world wars and other minor wars over the last century and you will agree. Widespread diseases, unemployment, poverty and even suicides will be the result. No one likes wars anymore but they are often unpreventable once the proliferation of small arms and nuclear devices is not stopped. |
