yes, for instance ,some paintings, but for those in survival situation like in the desert, it's worthless.
it's also similar to buying a priceless bed,but you just can't get a good sleep

If you were stranded in the middle of a desert, with a 60-carat solitaire diamond in your pocket, even a glass of water, or some mode of fast transport to get you out of there, would then seem to be worth far more than the precious stone ! And you will be more than willing to exchange the diamond for getting prompt relief !
But there will be no one, to take up your offer...
That would be a situation where a priceless diamond becomes worthless for you !
:-))

honey, let me put it this way. the only thing i can think of when "priceless but worthless" are juxtaposed, meaning if the two attributes are referred to one person alone is....

visualize a beautiful girl who's a social climber who got married to a "handsome tycoon, who has everything money can buy...but has "erectile dysfunction". (i don't mean to be rude with this example, honey, but that's how we can resolve the contradiction, and, of course, there are other examples.)

so, isn't that kind of guy "priceless but worthless?"

I have to really think hard about this, sweetie. Okay, here's my answer.

IF we're talking about a THING - something tangible - then yes, something priceless to me may be totally worthless to most people. Example: a used movie stub of my first date with my BF. priceless/worthless indeed!

But if we're talking about something intangible - like a person or an action of that person - then I have to say it's not possible. Yes he's priceless to me and the little things he does are priceless too BUT I would fight anyone saying those are worthless.

See the difference. sweetie. Happy Valentine's, Pao.

the statement "priceless but worthless" cannot be possible from a single perspective; but POSSIBLE in more than one perspective.

EXAMPLE:
Your late father's hankerchief might be PRICELESS to you, but WORTHLESS for me. (two different perspectives)

2 Situational Perspectives:

Telling someone "i love you" when he is still living is PRICELESS; but telling someone "i love you" when he is now dead is WORTHLESS because he couldn't hear you.

(well, assuming that he really can't hear you and no other way of knowing this, and disregarding the spiritual realm)

Leander
Yes.. Something can be priceless to someone like an heirloom, a valentine's card, an anting-anting (believed to be), or a picture but its all worthless to others especially in the market today...

yeah. It depends on your philosophy and you perception and understanding of things.

But for me, I think everything in the world has something of worth. hmmm... come to think of it, if there was no ground, would you still be standing here? If air was absent, I don't think I'll be living right now.

And also, what might be priceless and worthless to you, based on your situation and culture, might be the opposite for others. And in effect, it works the same way in the opposite. Do you think life is full of worth? Others, don't. But, I don't think they are right because nothing in this world is worthless.

Lastly, all of us are interrelated and interconnected. I don't think if one person loses his perception of worthiness, others lose theirs, because for those who don't, they regard them, those who've lost theirs, as part of the worthiness of their lives.

EDIT: It's like everything in this world defines you, as a person living in this world.

it depends.. the two doesnt always have to come together, a thing for you might be worthless but it might be priceless for me...

Yes it is but only in regards to how two different people would regard a specific thing.

Like in the saying one man's trash is another man's treasure, so that one thing that is worthless to one person can be priceless to another. But usually not the same thing for the same person.

Your question is " ... can this be possible?"

If it is really a matter of being possible, then the answer is YES. There are always possibilities (of strange and even weird combinations) that happen everyday and everywhere.

In economic parlance, priceless means mispriced, not worthless.
