Agree 100%!
What we control is our decision - which option to pick. But we have no control of the choices at hand. These have been laid out for us based on our circumstances and other factors.
To illustrate ---
Where to live? The options are limited to any one of the 7 continents. Those are our only choices. We have no control over that. But the decision of which continent to live in is certainly within our control.
What question to answer here at YAP? We are limited only to those open questions which we may or may not have knowledge of; which may or may not interest us. Certainly, our choices are not within our control because we cannot ask the questions we like. But to decide which questions to answer that's clearly within our control.
And I just exercised that control! |

Disagree! The only thing you can control is your choices. Everything else is pretty much up to God, Karma, Laws, or whatever you want to attribute it to. |

I disagree. Before making a choice one weighs things up. He/she picks the "better" between the options. The choice may not be the perfect one but that's the choice he/she picked. There's clearly control in making choices. |

disagree. it is called a choice basically because you have a say on it.
also, it is not just choice that i can control. i control my attitude. it does not control me.
i also control my emotions lest they consume me. |

AGREE ...
The choices that are presented or available vis-a-vis an issue at hand can be compared to pop-ups. They just come from everywhere and anytime.
If one has an issue at hand, a very common query is "what are my choices?" The choices, per se, again are non-controllable. It is like a drop-down menu where different options are available to be chosen.
The only thing you can control though is your final decision as to what choice or alternative you opt for. |

I agree and disagree. Here you've gone and made me have to make a choice.
I agree with the statement, in that we might not always be able to control what our choices (options) are, but I disagree in that it's up to me which one of the options available I decide to choose. Granted, we make some choices we don't particularly want to make, but that is generally brought about by bad choices we made earlier. For instance: A choice by an adolescent to have premarital sex results in an unexpected, unwanted pregnancy. Your decision for sex has now given you some grave options (not choices you yourself would've put on the table, but choices you'll have to make.) Of the choices you have:> Full term & keep baby (get married) - Full term and place baby for adoption - or abortion. Those will be YOUR choices ( because of a previous wrong choice) but it is then YOUR choice which you elect to do? ??(is that a good example?)
"Being able to choose" is one of the things that God made available to us. We may not always choose right, but we are the ones that ultimately make the choice. About religion, our career choice, marry or not marry, Remember we reduce the pool of choices by making bad choices, because we have to deal with consequences afterward. |

I disagree.. It' the other way around.. You have the most control on your choices because you are the one making it... The environment and factors that made you pick that choice cannot be controlled as much but your choices can be controlled... |

Disagree...
To quote:
"Life is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice".
We really can control our choices. It is just up to that person if he chooses to be good or the other way around.

disagree,
we control our choices but the consequence of these choices are controlled by a force that is incomprehendable. A force beyond fathomable proportions. A force that is unnatural by all means. This force is presumably god, but nevertheless, we still have choices and we can manipulate this to our best extent but what is destined to happen will happen. |
