A.C let me put it this way, your Australian, your wife is Australian, the child is born in Australia the child is Australian.
However, if both parents are not Australian but Canadian, and wife decides to give birth prematurely, because the child can't wait, I am of the understanding the child is Australian, you must register the birth both in Australia and with the Canadian Embassy. That child is actually entitled to Dual citizenship.
The above example is what I understand unless there has been a change. I used Canada because that's what I am, Canadian.

If the parents are born in NSW, that would probably make them Australian citizens. A child born in Australia to Australian citizens automatically would make the child an australian citizen. |

There is no such thing as "NSW" or "Sydney" citizenship. Any child born in Australia is automatically an Australian citizen. |

If the parents where the children of immigrants and never got australian citizenship (say one was greek and the other vietnamese) then there child would receive greek and vietnamese citizenship. The child's parents could apply for them to get australian citizenship and in these case they could probably get it without much difficulty.
I was born in an japan to australian parents and i was granted australian citizenship but was not allowed japanese.
I do not know of any countries besides the USA who grant automatic citizenship for birth on their soil. |

If both parents were born in Sydney then their child should be an australian citizen unless the child is adopted and they are going through the process of obtaining citizenship. |

Is this a trick question. OK I bite
If the parents were born in Sydney NSW but their parents were foreign dipomats - they were not citizens at birth.
a) If they are now diplomates - their child is not an Australian citizen
IF the parents were children of New Zealand diplomates - they retained NZ citizenship -
If the child was born after 2001 and the parents had not become Australian citizens - then the child is listed as a NZ citizen. |
