Charles Sturt Uni has campuses in Bathurst and Wagga Wagga and perhaps these may be cheaper then those in larger areas. In terms of the cost of living (accomodation, Transport and Food Prices). As far as I am aware course costs are similar for most Uni's. So perhaps more emphasis should go on the region in which you study rather then the uni to cut costs.

I'd pick Melbourne Uni or Monash Uni in Melbourne

Try Uni of Tasmania. It depends which department you're trying to get into but they are highly regarded in a number of departments - Environmental Science and Law are good examples, they rate highly against other Unis in these areas. They also rely a lot more on full-fee paying students to fund them, so they are keen to hear from students from overseas.

Plus, low end jobs are not so hard to find, most students down here have part time work while they're studying, and you can live within 30 mins of the Uni easily, and 30 mins from the beach or wilderness, while still living in a cosmopolitan city.

Charles Sturt Uni is excellent but its in Bathurst.
What course are you doing though, because different courses cost different amounts!

In Sydney or close to it you have Wollongong, Newcastle, Uni of Western Sydney and Charles Sturt(Bathurst) at the cheaper end and Sydney, New South Wales, Uni of Technology and Macquarie at the more expensive end. Unfortunately the days of cheap tertiary education are long gone.

Don't overlook the cost of rent. Even if uni fees are a bit higher in some places, rents might be lower so the cost might be lower overall. Thus you might do well to look at James Cook (Townsville) Central Queensland (Rockhampton) or New England (Armidale) just to mention three. Some universities have a campus outside the main location and depending on what you intend to study you might be able to live in a relatively low rent country town, even get part time work.

Sorry pal, there aint no cheap Uni's in Australia. Thanks to the current Govt not supporting the education system, Uni fees are going up and up all the time.

And Wollongong is a cheap Uni. And yeah .. jobs are scarce in Wollongong. (My brother lives there and has to commute to Sydney every day for work).
