Depends what you like. But you would probably want to visit Sydney (eg. Bondi beach, Harbour Bridge, Sydney Tower, Taronga zoo), and take a day trip to the Blue Mountains (Katoomba), take a weekend trip to Port Stephens (ride the sand dunes, dolphin tours etc). If you have time, you should fly up north to the Great Barrier Reef (as it is one of the natural wonders of the world).
And if you still have time, visit Tasmania (beautiful scenery), the red Centre (Ayers Rock) - but this will probably be an expensive side trip), Jervis Bay (beautiful white sand)...
Australia's capital is actually Canberra (I'm sure many people don't knwo that!), but I would suggest you skip it cos it isn't particularly interesting. |

i travelled all over Australia and I loved it- the highlights were
1. Cairns and the great barrier reef area.
2. Uluru (unfortunately i didnt get to see it change colors, it was pouring rain the day i went but i hear it's gorgeous in the sun!) great opportunity to see the outback too!
3. Tazmania (off the beaten path- lots of pristine wilderness and nice scenery!)
4. Sydney and Melbourne. both great city's- sydney is a little harder to find your way around though (but there is so much to do in both!)
5. The great ocean road (and the penguins) outside of melbourne
its a beautiful country- if your planning on going halfway across the world, you should visit new zealand while your there- I liked NZ even better than Australia! both amazing country's though. have fun! |

I visited many places in Australia, the places i liked best were the sea sight ressorts between sydney & brisbane in New South Wales. They were not too touristy and the atmosphere was great.
Also I liked the area around Monkey Mia in WA, but there it was terribly touristic even if so far away from the rest of the world. It's a pity australia is so far away from europe, otherwise I would go more often |

Sydney is an obvious answer. If you're in Australia you gotta see the Opera House and climb the Sydney Harbor Bridge. I also enjoyed going to Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort on Moreton Island. I also recommend Airlie Beach and Townsville. All of these are on the East Coast of Australia. I would like to go to Melbourne which is one place I didn't get a chance to go to while I was in Australia. |
