HiG/Sub Zero, RKO = God~! OS~!

A quick question...?

Why are we (meaning Australians) the un-funniest people on the planet, now im not claiming to be Comedy's Messiah but i know whats funny - WE are not funny and there are no funny people.
Lets look at our "comedians"
- Rove McManus, the root of all evil, the worlds unfunniest man who uses childish jokes to make himself seem appealing.
- Dave Hughes, the man with the annoying voice, he is repetitive and very lame.
- Fiona O'Loughlin, probably the worst out of the bunch. Uses sex jokes constantly and never shuts up about her kids.
There are more - Cameron Knight, Justin Kennedy, Gary Eck, Mick Molloy etc.

The only funny one i can think of is Peter Helliar, he is funny. Laid back, doesnt try too hard and has a hilarious alter-ego ... Strauchanie!

So Australia, should we just stop trying to do comedy?
(Not really a quick question anymore is it?)
Additional Details
What do i find funny - Family Guy, The Daily Show (Jon Stewart), The Colbert Report (Stephen Colbert), Scrubs, Comedy Inc, Whose Line is it Anyway, Will & Grace etc.

I find Americans to be completely unfunny and their supposed comedy programs to be crass. I like Australian and British humour, they concentrate less on pratfalls and slapstick and more on wordplay.

There are some very good stand-up comedians in Australia including Wil Anderson, Peter Berner, Adam Spencer, Rod Quantock and Jean Kitson. They all do stuff other than stand-up too. One of the funniest shows on TV is Spicks and Specks on the ABC and The Chaser has its moments.

Abe you ever attended the International Comedy Festival in Melbourne? Australian comedians are up there with the world's best. The shows sell out very quickly. It must be the unpopularity of Australian comedy and the inability of Australian comedians that causes that.

Perhaps it is you with no sense of humour above the low level of American so-called comedy.

I thought Comedy Inc. The Late Shift totally kicked the American's Saturday Night Live and Mad TV's butt for late night comedy sketch shows. I'm an American living in Australia. I laughed all the way through all the Aussie shows.

I dig Rove because he IS so childlike rather than childish, and he's totally amicable. I thought Dave Hughes had a more proper outlet on Glass House, but I get his bit about being ticked off regarding current events. I definitely see how you can find his voice annoying, though. Haha!

Plus I've seen bits of America's version of Thank God You're Here, and Australians, the originators of the now franchise show, are WAY funnier.

I agree with you about Peter Helliar, though. My boyfriend and I totally love the pasta sauce ad he did recently. Intenso! Haha!

Hey - Mick Molloy was pretty funny in his heyday. I still laugh my head off at old episodes of The Late Show. Shame he's stuck on such a bomby show like The Nation these days.

I don't really get Australian comedians (except for The Chaser), I'm more into British comedy. All of my favourite comedians are British (Noel Fielding, Stephen K Amos, Russell Brand, Frankie Boyle, Andy Parsons etc) and I adore shows like Blackadder, Mock the Week, The Mighty Boosh, Three Non-Blondes, Fawlty Towers, and The Office. On the other hand, I, unlike you, find Americans almost completely unfunny except for Scrubs and Arrested Development. 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' was good too, but I thought the Brits did a better job in the original (as they always do).

Aussies get to be proud of comedic geniuses like The Wedge, Comedy Inc, Rove McManus... err.. woohoo. Not a very exciting scene we have here.

Australians are generally more funny when we're not trying so hard ..

when we kick back and relax and say what comes to mind first up ...

we are funny ..naturally funny ... BUT somewhere along the line people started pushing the *FUNNY LINE* and it just doesn't work ... Kinda like Paul Hogan's plastic Surgery... he looked better before he tried,

we have to get back in touch with our Irish heritage and that will help.

Southern Comfort
I adore the accents and find you all generally a funny and amusing country to converse with..world wide comedy is sinking..and we as people have to enjoy the differences in each other..one of the best questions this morning on Y/A was do you prefer board shorts or budgie smushers? or is it budgie something else..anyway it was a hoot and way cute

It's pointless answering this. In my opinion, the only funny show out of the ones you've mentioned is "Who's Line Is It Anyway."
Everyone's sense of humour is different. Which is a good thing.
