AUSSIES<>What do you think of living like this, we might have to? |
Our water issues I'm talking about. Ok we can always buy bottled water from the shops. If we can afford it. Thats just comforting to me..and I can live with doing the dishes much less...and using much less sink water..also having the quickest shower possible, get in, wet my hair somewhat quick..pop shampoo on..quickly lather..wash it out quick while wetting my bod..get all the shampoo out..then hop out...instead of spending 30 mins reading the shampoo bottle lol. Doing that twice a week..monday and Wednesday. Put loads of deodorant on and maby wash my face a little each day to look and feel fresh..good!! yeah, I can totally live with that..might teach me some self disipline...then with your future kids...bath twice a week...ah kids love being dirty anyway lol
Save up and buy more clothes so you can wait longer to have a full load to wash the clothes in the washing mashine..the most water saving one of course..and go to the beach for your splash around...the pools will probably be skating ramps...the beach is far bigger and more fun anyway...and more beautufil...what else would we have to do? also, it might not get this bad at all, with the plant to turn sea water into fresh water..but its fun to think about...any thought welcome..=) |

I live on the outskirts of Brisbane and we don't have town water. We collect rainwater, and on the rare occasions when our creek is running, we pump water from that into holding tanks.
We use under 70 litres per day per person. We all shower every day using normal shower heads (not those awful water saving things) BUT we always take short showers; we use our dishwasher every day and we wash our clothes as often as anyone else does. Both the dishwasher and the washing machine are very low water usage models (Miele d/w and Asko front loading w/m)
What we don't do is water the garden - if it dies from lack of water, it doesn't belong here; we don't have a lawn to water (or mow); we don't wash our cars at home but take them to the car wash where the water is recycled; we don't hose paths or anything else outside; we have an "if it's yellow, let it mellow" toilet policy and limited flush toilets. In short, we don't waste water.
We've lived like this since 1981, well before there was a drought and raised a family, all of whom knew the score from birth when it came to water usage. It really amuses me (but makes me mad too), to hear people with town water whingeing about a few water restrictions. Get over it!
Australia needs more dams. It needs them in places where there are no dams at present and it needs a water grid to transfer water from one place to another as required. We need strong governments that will make some tough decisions about where to site dams. Australia has plenty of water, but thousands, perhaps millions of megalitres are wasted every year because we we don't catch most of it when it falls and a side benefit of more dams and an effective water distribution system would also be fewer, less devasting floods. |

People in the city have it soooo easy when it comes to a drought.
OMG we can only use 140litres of water EACH per day. Oh please!
That's not that hard!
I live in a rural area and we're not connected to town water at all, we only have what falls out of the sky and fills our tanks.
My husband and I quite easily survive on approximately 46 litres of water a day each.
We can all learn to conserve water if we try. And as for the 30 minute shower ... what the hell do you do in there for 30 minutes???
Firstly try turning the water off while you are shampooing your hair, and DON'T shave your legs/underarms under the shower.
We all have to live on this planet, so it's the responsibility of all to look after it. Will your 30 minute showers seem so important when there is nothing to drink? |

Saving water is really not that hard. Turn off the tap when you are brushing your teeth. Reduce your shower time slowly this way you get used to it. I live in Brisbane where we have had to use only 140l. You get used to it. Don't worry about this when it happens that everybody has to respect our water you'll find technology will adapt to make life easier. |

yer its not so bad but just a thought where dose the water to grow food come from or the animals to drink or refill the aqufifers under ground to fill up the drink bottels,
we give a away our ground water to mining companys and agriculture that benifits just a few along with coke a cola so they can resell it back to up with a shelf life at 3000% mark up theres a lot to do yet |

As long as we have enough to survive is all that matters the most. I'd rather be dirty and alive than be clean and dehydrated to certain death. Laugh about it now things won't always be this good and I'm sure when the time comes when its really bad only those who had a serious attitude to begin with will last longer. |

I already live like that.. lol Its so much cheaper, and water wouldnt be an issue..
When I'm in the shower, i just turn it on to fill up a big bucket.. Then i wet my hair, shampoo, put body wash.. Then rinse it all out.. I'm used to it.. I do it often.. It saves alot more water than to leave the shower on for a long time.. And it has the same effect anyway.. Or just simply turning off the shower while putting shampoo and all of that, and just turning it on to rinse.
I dont water the garden anymore, I just pour water on the plants after changing the water in the fish tank, its better than using the hose, much better for the plants too. |

as i pay the water bill i should be allowed to use as much water as i choose, but in saying that i believer that water should cost more per liter the more water you use eg
10 cents per liter if you use only say 1000lt
but it should go up to 20 cents per lt if you use 2000lt |
